• Alek Manoah strikes out 12 in Triple-A start
Alek Manoah (shoulder) recorded 12 strikeouts and allowed one run over six innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: With a spot in Toronto’s starting rotation seemingly up for grabs with Yariel Rodríguez (back) landing on the injured list on Tuesday evening, Manoah turned in his best outing in recent memory, allowing just four baserunners over six impressive frames. His fastball velocity was back up into the mid-90’s and he generated 19 swinging strikes, including 13 on his slider alone, finishing with an elite 45 percent CSW. He figures to take the ball on Sunday against the Nationals, barring something unexpected. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago

  • Paul Skenes twirls six shutout frames at Triple-A
Pirates RHP prospect Paul Skenes struck out seven over six shutout innings on Tuesday for Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Skenes touched triple digits 13 times, averaging 99.8 mph on his four-seam fastball, and needed just 75 pitches (53 strikes) to complete six frames for the first time in his professional career. He generated 11 swinging strikes and finished with a 31 percent CSW, allowing only five baserunners over six dominant innings. We’re not sure what else Pittsburgh’s front office needs to see at this juncture. The 21-year-old top pitching prospect boasts a microscopic 0.39 ERA and 41/6 K/BB ratio across 23 innings (six starts). It’s time. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

  • Making second rehab start
Clevinger is making a rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: The right-hander threw 60 pitches over 3.1 innings during his first rehab outing Thursday and is expected to build up to around 75 pitches Tuesday. Assuming everything goes well, Clevinger could join the White Sox for his season debut early next week. Rotowire.com Today, 4:02 pm
  • Throwing bullpen session
Snell (thigh) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Snell landed on the shelf last week with a Grade 2 adductor strain, but he wasn't shut down from throwing for long. The left-hander hopes to spend close to the 15-day minimum on the injured list, though he seems likely to be sidelined a bit longer. A specific timeline for Snell's return could come into focus as he ramps up his throwing program. Rotowire.com Today, 3:41 pm

  • Red Sox acquire Bailey Horn from White Sox
Red Sox acquired LHP Bailey Horn from the White Sox for cash considerations.

Advice: Red Sox president of baseball operations Craig Breslow’s familiarity with Horn from their time with the Cubs the last few years certainly appears to have been a factor in this move. The 26-year-old lefty was removed from the White Sox’ 40-man roster earlier this week and will head to Triple-A Worcester as extra organizational depth for the Red Sox. Rotoworld Today, 3:32 pm

  • Matt Manning starting second game of Tuesday DH
Matt Manning will serve as the Tigers’ 27th man for Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Advice: Manning will take the ball for the nightcap of Tuesday’s twin bill in Detroit. It’ll be his third big-league start this season as he’s gotten the ball a couple times in early-season doubleheaders. There’s limited streaming appeal here, but he might be worthy of a dice roll in extremely deep mixed leagues. Rotoworld Today, 3:24 pm

  • Added as 27th man
The Tigers added Manning to the active roster to start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Advice: Manning will be making his third start of the season Tuesday. He looked good during his first two big league outings, posting a 2.92 ERA and 0.89 WHIP across 12.1 innings, though he will likely be sent back to Triple-A Toledo after Tuesday's game. Rotowire.com Today, 3:16 pm

  • Ryan Helsley nets 10th save Tuesday vs. Tigers
Ryan Helsley tossed a perfect ninth inning on Tuesday against the Tigers to collect his major league-leading 10th save of the season.

Advice: Helsley got the call to protect a slim one-run margin in the final frame after St. Louis stormed ahead with a pair of runs in the top of the frame and needed just 10 pitches (10 strikes) to slam the door. He’s converted 10 of his 11 save opportunities this season and continues rolling. Rotoworld Today, 3:14 pm

  • Shelby Miller takes blown save Tuesday vs. Cards
Shelby Miller allowed two runs in the ninth inning on Tuesday in a blown save against the Cardinals.

Advice: Tigers manager A.J. Hinch’s decision to hand the ball to Miller, instead of keeping stopper Jason Foley in the contest to attempt to convert a five-out save, backfired spectacularly as the Cardinals rallied for a pair of runs to waste a brilliant performance from Jack Flaherty. Miller surrendered three-straight one-out singles, including a game-tying knock to Alec Burleson, before rookie Pedro Pagés came through with a go-ahead sacrifice fly. It’s not what you want.
