      Jack Flaherty yielded two earned runs and struck out six batters in six innings on Monday in a loss against the Guardians.

      Advice: It would’ve been nonsense to think Flaherty could match his last outing of 14 punch outs, but the 28-year-old pitched well against the Guardians and now has six or more strikeouts in five straight starts. The right-hander allowed his first of two runs in the first inning off a single from Will Brennan. He didn’t allow another run until his last inning when José Ramírez took him deep in the sixth.       Manager Bruce Bochy stated Monday that Eovaldi isn't dealing with a sports hernia and should be cleared to return after serving the 15-day minimum on the injured list, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

      Advice: The Rangers initially believed that Eovaldi wouldn't be forced to miss more than the required 15 days, and this report was confirmed after the right-hander visited a specialist Monday.       Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters that Nathan Eovaldi (groin) received “good news” during his visit with a specialist.

      Advice: In particular, Eovaldi does not have a sports hernia. The right-hander was placed on the injured list Friday with a right groin strain, and he visited with the specialist Monday in New York.       Matt Vierling is starting at 3B and hitting third for the Tigers on Monday against the Guardians.

      Advice: Vierling has bounced around the lineup over the last week but never hitting below fifth in the order. With Wenceel Perez still out with an illness, Vierling will get a chance to hit third against right-hander Triston McKenzie. Vierling is off to a strong start this year, slashing .287/.313/.457 with three home runs, 14 runs, and 11 RBI in 99 plate appearances. He’s chasing less out of the strike zone but being more aggressive in the strike zone which has led to increased contact rates. He’s also pulling and lifting the ball more, which has helped him register an 8.2 percent barrel rate. We might not be seeing a full-on breakout, but his success has not been flukey. He's healthy now after resuming his rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham this past Thursday and is finally ready for his 2024 Rays debut following a nearly six-week absence.
