    • Set for primary catching role
Herrera will serve as the Cardinals' designated hitter and cleanup batter in Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Advice: Though he'll be included in the lineup in a non-defensive role Wednesday, Herrera is expected to serve as the Cardinals' primary backstop for the foreseeable future after Willson Contreras was placed on the 10-day injured list with a fractured forearm, an injury that will likely keep him out for 6-to-8 weeks. Pedro Pages was called up from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move and will start behind the plate Wednesday, but Herrera should see the bulk of the work at catcher while Contreras is on the shelf. Herrera has logged 76 plate appearances so far this season, hitting .232 with three home runs, 11 RBI and seven runs. Rotowire.com 4 minutes ago

    • Getting Wednesday off
Marte is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Marte had started each of the Mets' first seven games of May, going 6-for-30 (.200 average) with one extra-base hit (a double) and one stolen base. His absence Wednesday looks to be little more than a maintenance day as the Mets and Cardinals wrap up their series with a day game after a night game. Rotowire.com 11 minutes ago
    • Receiving breather Wednesday
McNeil is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: McNeil is likely just sitting out as part of a planned rest day, as he had started each of the Mets' last 30 games dating back to April 5. Joey Wendle will fill in for McNeil at the keystone. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago

    • Retreating to bench Wednesday
Nido is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Nido will get a breather for the day game after he started behind the dish in both of the first two contests of the series. Omar Narvaez will form a battery with starting pitcher Jose Quintana on Wednesday. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago

    • Not in Wednesday's lineup
Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: The Dodgers are playing a day game after a night game, so it makes sense to give Smith a day to rest his legs. Austin Barnes will do the catching for Gavin Stone on Wednesday as the Dodgers go for the series sweep. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago

    • Impressive pop in Tuesday's loss
McCann went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run, a walk and two additional runs in a loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.

Advice: The reserve backstop continues to parlay his occasional opportunities into standout offensive production, with Tuesday's impressive day pushing his average and OPS to .393 and 1.235, respectively, across 33 plate appearances. While the small-sample caveat certainly applies, it's difficult to dismiss how quickly McCann seems to have acclimated to big-league arms after displaying impressive bat skills at both the Double-A and Triple-A levels the last two seasons. Shea Langeliers remains the top backstop at the moment and certainly has the edge in terms of knowledge of the pitching staff, but given the expansive gulf in offensive performance between the two thus far, it's conceivable McCann could progressively carve out more consistent opportunities. • Mark Canha still out with illness Wednesday
Mark Canha is out of Wednesday’s lineup with an upper respiratory infection.

Advice: This appears to be why the 35-year-old was out of the lineup Tuesday as well. “He’s not feeling well,” manager AJ Hinch said. “It hasn’t been a great road trip health-wise (for the team), so we’re kind of quarantining him at this point to get him away from the rest of us until further notice.” If this is the case, Canha could be out a couple more games. The Tigers finish up their road trip at Cleveland and head back home for a weekend series against with the Astros. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago

    • Uncorks three-run shot Tuesday
Brown went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in a loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.

Advice: Brown's eighth-inning shot with JJ Bleday and Brent Rooker aboard got the Athletics out of a double-digit deficit, but it would also be the final runs of the day for Oakland. The 31-year-old snapped a six-game home-run drought with the round-tripper, as well as the 0-for-11 slump he'd been mired in during that stretch. Brown is still limping along with a .179/.243/.305 slash line, and a strikeout rate that's ballooned to 31.1 percent this season is playing a prominent role in the struggles. • Hopes to be available Wednesday
The Blue Jays hope Garcia (back) will be available to pitch Wednesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: Garcia's last appearance came all the way back on April 28 as he deals with a nagging back issue. He's apparently feeling better, though, and as long as he checks out well during a pregame throwing session he is expected to be available out of the bullpen Wednesday. Garcia has been one of the best relievers in baseball this season, allowing just one run with a 16:3 K:BB over 13.1 innings. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago
