    • Moves to 60-day IL
The Rangers transferred Scherzer (back/arm) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

Advice: Scherzer surprisingly avoided the 60-day IL to begin the season after the Rangers were encouraged enough by his recovery from his Dec. 15 back surgery during spring training to keep the door open for him to make his 2024 debut before May 27. Though Scherzer remained on track to meet the Rangers' goal as recently as a few weeks ago, it became clear that his absence would extend into June after he dealt with a thumb issue coming out of his first rehab start April 24 with Triple-A Round Rock. He hasn't been able to do much activity ever since, but he'll play light catch Wednesday while he contends with a nerve issue in addition to ramping back up from his herniated disc surgery. Fortunately for Scherzer, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com relays that the right-hander has had MRIs on his triceps, elbow and neck that all returned clean, so the nerve problem is believed to be something that he'll be able to manage. The Rangers will wait and see how he responds to playing catch Wednesday before mapping out his throwing progression any futher. Rotowire.com 36 minutes ago

    • Sean Murphy (oblique) nearing rehab assignment
Sean Murphy (oblique) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment next week.

Advice: It’s been a very slow and methodical progression for Murphy, who was diagnosed with a Grade 1 oblique strain at the end of March. He should only need a couple of games in the minor leagues before he’s ready to return to the Braves’ lineup. If all goes well, it’s possible that he could be ready to return next weekend. • Will try to play catch Wednesday
Scherzer (back) will attempt to play light catch Wednesday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

Advice: Scherzer is dealing with a nerve problem which has affected his throwing arm. He was given a cortisone injection in his right thumb to combat the issue, but it's something he might just have to learn to pitch through. Scherzer revealed that he underwent MRIs on his triceps, elbow and neck to make sure there wasn't something else going on, and all of those tests came back negative. The righty had begun a rehab assignment last month, but he's been shut down for a couple weeks with the nerve issue. Scherzer initially went on the IL after offseaon back surgery. There's no timetable for his return to the Rangers' rotation. Rotowire.com 56 minutes ago

    • Rangers transfer Max Scherzer to 60-day IL
Rangers transferred RHP Max Scherzer to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: Nothing has changed in the recovery progress for Scherzer — who is scheduled to play catch on Wednesday — this was done merely as a procedural move to free up a spot on the Rangers’ 40-man roster. There’s still no clear timeline for when Scherzer may be able to join the Rangers’ rotation. Rotoworld 57 minutes ago

    • Goes through agility drills
Turner (hamstring) went through agility drills and fielded grounders at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Turner is less than two weeks removed from suffering a left hamstring strain, so it would seem to be a positive development that he's already working out on the field. Phillies manager Rob Thomson insisted Wednesday that "there is no timeline" for Turner's return, but it's possible the shortstop has a shot to beat the initially projected six-week timetable. • Max Scherzer set to play catch on Wednesday
Max Scherzer (thumb) is scheduled to play catch on Wednesday.

Advice: The 39-year-old right-hander underwent MRI exams on his triceps, elbow and neck — all of which came back clean. It’s a nerve issue that he’s trying to manage, and it may wind up being something that he just needs to play through and learn how to manage. There’s still no clear timetable for his potential return to the Rangers’ rotation. Rotoworld Today, 1:37 pm

    • Trea Turner (hamstring) takes ground balls
Trea Turner (hamstring) took ground balls and did some agility drills on the field on Wednesday without any issue.

Advice: Turner told reporters after landing on the injured list in early May that he would miss at least six weeks with his left hamstring strain. He appears to be making excellent progress in his recovery though, and I don’t think it would surprise anyone at this point if he beat that initial estimate. Rotoworld Today, 1:08 pm

    • Luis Arraez not in Padres’ lineup on Wednesday
Luis Arraez is not in the Padres’ starting lineup for Wednesday’s tilt against the Rockies.

Advice: It looks to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the two-time defending batting champion. Manny Machado will function as the team’s designated hitter on Wednesday while Donovan Solano will draw a start at third base and bat sixth against left-hander Austin Gomber and the Rockies. Jurickson Profar will slide up to the leadoff spot in the Padres’ lineup. Rotoworld Today, 1:00 pm

    • William Contreras homers, Brewers demolish Pirates
William Contreras went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and four RBI on Wednesday, leading the Brewers to a decisive 10-2 victory over the Pirates.

Advice: Contreras is rapidly evolving into one of the premier four-category contributors in the entire fantasy landscape as his latest three-hit performance, his sixth of the season, raises his batting average to an astronomical .359 mark through 43 contests. The 26-year-old backstop crushed a three-run homer off Pirates southpaw Martín Pérez in the third inning and also added an RBI triple a couple frames later as Milwaukee hit five homers in a blowout victory. He’s up to 39 runs scored and 34 homers already to go along with six homers and three steals as well. There isn’t much left to say at this point besides legitimately asking if he’s going to surpass Orioles superstar Adley Rutschman as the consensus top catcher in fantasy at some point in the future.
