      Advice: Garrett served up a solo homer to Mike Siani in the fifth that turned out to be his only mistake in an otherwise stellar showing. The left-hander didn't issue a walk in his six innings of work, making it the fourth time in his seven starts this season that he didn't allow a free pass. The 26-year-old has been inconsistent this season, as he has allowed 22 runs in four of his starts but has given up just two runs in his other three appearances.       Advice: Hicks recently battled an illness but was able to take his regular turn in the rotation Monday. He threw only 48 of 87 pitches for strikes and tied a season high in issuing four free passes, but he was able to work around constant traffic on the basepaths to finish with five scoreless frames. It was the first time Hicks has held an opponent scoreless since his season debut against San Diego on March 30, though he's been quite reliable in yielding three or fewer earned runs in all but one of his 15 outings.       Jordan Hicks threw five shutout innings and got a no-decision against the Cubs on Monday.



      Advice: Hicks gave up four hits, walked four and struck out four. It was a solid start for Hicks, who lowered his ERA to 2.82 on the season with the effort. The converted reliever hasn’t completed six innings in a start since April, but he continues to pitch well while he’s out there. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face his former team the Cardinals on the road this weekend.

      Braxton Garrett yielded one run over six innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Cardinals.

      Advice: Garrett recorded six strikeouts and held the Cardinals to just a fifth-inning solo homer by Michael Siani over six strong frames. It was a much-needed rebound effort for the 26-year-old lefty after being tagged for 11 runs (nine earned) over his previous two starts against the Mets and Rays, respectively.       Anthony Rizzo was diagnosed with a fractured right arm following Sunday’s collision at first base and is likely to miss 4-6 weeks, The Athletic reports.

      Advice: One wonders if Rizzo will have a job to come back to at that point. The Yankees will likely go with DJ LeMahieu at first and Oswaldo Cabrera at third for now.     • Dealing with arm fracture
      Rizzo (arm) suffered a fracture to the radial neck of his right arm and could miss 4-to-6 weeks, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Rizzo suffered the injury in the seventh inning of Sunday's 9-3 loss and he'll now likely be sidelined until at least the All-Star break. With the Yankees off Monday, the first baseman seems set to be officially placed on the injured list Tuesday, while his replacement on the roster is still unknown.       According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Gerrit Cole will make his season debut on Wednesday against the Orioles

      Advice: It always seemed likely that the Yankees would bring Cole back to face the Orioles, and we now know that will be the case. Cole has looked good during his rehab starts and was up to 70 pitches in his last outing, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him go at least 80 pitches on Wednesday night if the results allow.
