    • Yainer Diaz out Tuesday with finger contusion
Yainer Diaz (finger) is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Giants.

Advice: Diaz is available off the bench once again, if needed, but he’ll sit out his second straight contest as he continues to recover from a bruised right index finger. It’ll be Victor Caratini handing the catching duties with César Salazar up from the minors as emergency depth. Rotoworld Tuesday, 4:14 pm

    • Sitting Tuesday
Diaz (finger) isn't in the Astros' lineup Tuesday versus the Giants.

Advice: X-ray and MRI results on Diaz's right index finger came back negative before Tuesday's game, but the Astros will opt to hold him out of action rather than using him as their designated hitter. Victor Caratini, who figures to start regularly until Diaz is cleared to catch again, will get the nod behind the plate and bat ninth. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 4:06 pm

    • Mulling season-ending wrist surgery
Reds manager David Bell revealed Tuesday that Encarnacion-Strand is considering season-ending surgery to repair ligament damage in his right wrist, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Encarnacion-Strand initially went on the 10-day injured list in early May with a fracture in the wrist, but subsequent testing has apparently shown ligament damage. If the infielder opts against surgery, it's not clear how much longer he might be sidelined. Encarnacion-Strand slashed only .190/.220/.293 with two home runs in 29 games before getting hurt. • Bell: CES weighing season-ending hand surgery
Reds manager David Bell told reporters Tuesday that Christian Encarnacion-Strand has ligament damage in his right hand and is considering season-ending surgery.

Advice: Ugh. Not great. Encarnacion-Strand has been brought along slowly in his recovery from last month’s right hand fracture and was only recently cleared to resume baseball activities. The 24-year-old slugger has yet to be cleared to resume swinging a bat and it sounds like season-ending surgery hasn’t been ruled out as a potential option to address the ligament damage in his hand. Obviously his long-term health is the greater concern here, but it’s a tough loss for Cinciannti, and fantasy managers, if he’s not coming back this season. Rotoworld Tuesday, 1:42 pm
    • Rafael Devers (knee) back in lineup Tuesday
Rafael Devers (knee) is hitting cleanup and playing third base against the Phillies on Tuesday.

Advice: Devers missed Sunday’s game while dealing with soreness in his knee, but he’s back in the lineup for Tuesday’s opener against the Phillies. The 27-year-old will face off against Zack Wheeler while Bobby Dalbec retreating to the bench. Rotoworld Tuesday, 12:07 pm

    • Hitting cleanup in return
Defers (knee) is batting fourth and playing third base Tuesday against Philadelphia, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Advice: Devers missed Sunday's game with left knee soreness but he's back in the lineup for Tuesday's series opener. He's 8-for-25 (.320) with three homers through seven games in June and owns a .932 OPS on the year. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 12:01 pm

    • X-ray, MRI comes back negative
The Astros are hopeful Diaz can avoid the injured list after an X-ray and MRI on his right index finger came back negative, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 in Houston reports.

Advice: Diaz is still dealing with swelling in the finger after it was hit by a foul tip during Sunday's game against the Angels. While a decision on a potential IL stint has not yet been made, it sounds like Diaz is trending toward avoiding it for now. The Astros are set to recall Cesar Salazar as insurance behind the plate, so it seems as though Diaz will be unavailable to catch for a few more days. He was available to pinch hit Monday, so it's possible Diaz will serve as a designated hitter until he's ready to catch. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:39 am

    • Yainer Díaz (finger) out of lineup but available
Yainer Díaz is out of Monday’s lineup because of a bruised right index finger, but he is available off the bench for the Astros.

Advice: Victor Caratini is starting behind the plate against the Giants tonight. Díaz was hurt when he was hit by a foul ball Sunday. Rotoworld Monday, 5:01 pm

    • Dealing with soreness
Diaz isn't starting Monday's game against the Giants due to soreness and limited range of motion in his right index finger, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Diaz took a foul tip to his right hand during Sunday's game against the Angels, and he didn't feel healthy enough to start Monday's series opener. However, manager Joe Espada noted Diaz will be available to pinch hit if needed. Victor Caratini draws the start behind the dish and will bat ninth in Diaz's place. Rotowire.com Monday, 4:59 pm
