    • Tosses bullpen Monday
Musgrove (elbow) threw a "light" bullpen session Monday, per MLB.com.

Advice: This was Musgrove's first bullpen since going on the 15-day IL due to right elbow inflammation in early May. The right-hander is expected to throw another bullpen Wednesday, and if that goes well, he could return to the Padres' rotation without needing a rehab stint. Musgrove is tracking toward making his next start during San Diego's May 17-20 series in Atlanta. Rotowire.com Today, 10:03 am

    • Getting Wednesday off
Turang is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: The Brewers are facing left-hander Martin Perez in a day game after a night game, so manager Pat Murphy likely viewed Wednesday's contest as an opportune time to give the lefty-hitting Turang a breather. Turang had batted out of the leadoff spot in each of the last seven games, going 8-for-27 (.296 average) with two stolen bases, three RBI and three runs. Rotowire.com Today, 8:46 am

    • Dominant in Tuesday's win
Sale (6-1) picked up the win in Tuesday's 7-0 victory over the Cubs, scattering two hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out nine without walking a batter.

Advice: The veteran southpaw simply overmatched Chicago's hitters, and the only runner to get into scoring position against Sale came after one of his two HBPs on the night. He generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 92 pitches as he produced his second straight quality start and fourth of the season. Sale will take a 2.54 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and eye-popping 61:8 K:BB through 49.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Padres. • Launches first homer of 2024
Lowe went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Red Sox.

Advice: The 26-year-old outfielder connected on his first long ball of 2024 when he took Nick Pivetta deep in the first inning. Lowe is quickly making up for lost time after missing the first month-plus of the season due to an oblique strain, and in seven games since being activated from the IL he's batting .320 (8-for-25) with four doubles and a homer. • Anthony Volpe doubles, drives in one vs. Twins
Anthony Volpe went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI in Tuesday’s win over the Twins.

Advice: Volpe doubled in the second inning to drive home Gleyber Torres, giving the Yankees their second run of the inning and an early 2-1 lead. Volpe pushed his current hitting streak to seven games in this one and is now slashing .265/.333/.469 for the month of May. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:36 pm
    • Josh Lowe has two hits, HR vs Red Sox
Josh Lowe went 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run in a loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Advice: In the first inning, Lowe took Pivetta deep 385 feet on a ball that left the bat at 107 mph. It was the 26-year-old’s first home run of the season, and he’s now slashing .320/.360/.600 in seven games since coming off the IL. The Rays continue to hit him in the middle of the lineup, and he should be in for another big season if he can stay healthy. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:30 pm
    • Chris Sale stays hot in domination of Cubs
Chris Sale threw seven shutout innings in a 7-0 win over the Cubs, allowing just two hits and striking out nine.

Advice: He’s now allowed just two runs over his last 25 innings. Sale’s slider carved up the Cubs all game, with a 44 percent whiff rate and 34 percent CSW on the pitch. The average exit velocity on all contact against Sale was just 81 mph as the left-hander mowed down the Cubs’ order. The effort gave him a 2.54 ERA on the year to go along with 61 strikeouts to just eight walks in 49 2/3 innings. He has been every bit the ace he was back before his injuries and there’s no reason to doubt he can keep it up as long as he can stay healthy. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:53 pm

    • Blake Snell to make rehab start Friday at Triple-A
Blake Snell (adductor) will make another minor league rehab start on Friday for Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Snell will require one additional tune-up prior to returning to San Francisco’s starting rotation at some point later next week. The 31-year-old southpaw has been on the shelf since late April due to a left adductor strain. He struck out seven batters last Sunday in a dominant rehab outing for Single-A San Jose. • Next rehab start Friday
Snell (thigh) will make another rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Snell fired four perfect innings while striking out seven batters during his first rehab outing at Single-A San Jose, though he'll be facing some tougher competition during his next start. Assuming everything goes smoothly, Friday is expected to be the 31-year-old's final game in the minors, putting him in line to return from the IL and start May 23 against the Pirates.
