      The Cubs reinstated Palencia (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Iowa on Monday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

      Advice: Palencia will stick around with Iowa after he made six rehab appearances with the affiliate while he was on the shelf with a right shoulder strain. Though Palencia struck out eight over 4.2 scoreless innings across the last four appearances, the Cubs didn't have room for the right-hander in the bullpen.       Cubs activated RHP Daniel Palencia from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Iowa.

      Advice: The 24-year-old hurler had already been at Triple-A Iowa on a minor league rehab assignment, so he’ll remain there while he continues to hone his craft.       Advice: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza deployed Reed Garrett in the seventh inning and Ottavino in the eighth to protect a 4-3 lead to great effect, but Jake Diekman then blew the save in the ninth. The pecking order for saves in the absence of Edwin Diaz (shoulder) remains murky, but all three pitchers could see chances depending on the matchups.       Giants’ manager Bob Melvin told reporters on Sunday that Keaton Winn (forearm) may not require a minor league rehab start before rejoining the team’s rotation.

      Advice: With Blake Snell (groin) heading back to the injured list, the Giants have a gaping hole to fill in their rotation and Winn could be ready to fill the void. The 26-year-old right-hander has been shelved since May 15 due to a mild right forearm strain. He was supposed to make at least one rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento, but it sounds like the Giants may need to utilize him at the big league level instead.
