    • Jeimer Candelario out Thursday with knee tendinitis
Jeimer Candelario (knee) remains out of the lineup for Thursday’s contest against the Cardinals.

Advice: Candelario will get another day off to rest and recover as he continues to manage right knee tendinitis. The expectation is that he’ll be able to manage the ongoing issue moving forward, but if he’s unable to return in a couple days, the Reds might not have a choice besides sending him to the injured list. • Jake Fraley sitting out Thursday with calf injury
Jake Fraley (calf) is absent from the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Fraley underwent an MRI on his right calf on Thursday and the club is still awaiting the results. The 29-year-old corner outfielder was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup due to a lower leg contusion. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days and it wouldn’t be shocking to see him wind up requiring a trip to the injured list. Rotoworld 11 minutes ago

    • Gleyber Torres remains out of Thursday’s lineup
Gleyber Torres (groin) remains out of the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Torres will sit out his second straight contest due to an ongoing groin issue. It doesn’t sound like he’s in jeopardy of requiring a trip to the injured list at this stage, but that’s not a guarantee. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. • Daulton Varsho returns to lineup on Thursday
Daulton Varsho (back) returned to the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Yankees.

Advice: Varsho is back in center field and batting seventh on Thursday evening following a four-game absence due to an ongoing back issue. The hope here is that the extra time off out of an abundance of caution is enough to prevent the issue from becoming an even greater concern. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago

    • Undergoes MRI on calf
Fraley underwent and MRI on his right calf Thursday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's not clear what the result of the exam revealed or if they're in yet, but Fraley will miss a second straight start Thursday after being a late scratch from Wednesday's lineup. Santiago Espinal is getting the call at designated hitter for Cincinnati. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago

    • Not in Thursday's lineup
Rocchio is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Kansas City.

Advice: The Guardians are opting for Gabriel Arias at shortstop in their series opener against the Royals. Rocchio has been one of the lightest-hitting regulars in baseball this season, slashing an anemic .211/.312/.299. Rotowire.com 30 minutes ago
    • Remaining out Thursday
Candelario (hamstring) isn't in the Reds' lineup for Thursday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Manager David Bell said Wednesday that Candelario has been dealing with hamstring tendinitis for the past week, and while the team still doesn't plan on placing the 30-year-old on the injured list, his injury will cause him to miss a second consecutive game. Spencer Steer will get the nod at first base as a result, allowing Nick Martini to start in left field and bat fifth. Rotowire.com 31 minutes ago

    • Reds activate prospect Noelvi Marte for ’24 debut
Reds activated INF Noelvi Marte from the restricted list.

Advice: Marte returns to Cincinnati’s lineup for Thursday’s game against the Cardinals after serving an 80-game suspension following a positive test for a performance-enhancing substance. The 22-year-old infielder will get the majority of his starts at third base for the Reds moving forward after emerging as one of the top prospects in the fantasy landscape last year before batting .316/.366/.456 with three homers and six steals over 35 contests in the majors. He struggled in a quick 12-game ramp up earlier this month with Triple-A Louisville, batting .151 (8-for-53) with just one extra-base hit, but some rust is to be expected on the heels of such a lengthy absence. It might take him a few weeks to get going, but he’s absolutely worthy of a speculative roster spot in all leagues based solely on his immense talent. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago

    • Reds option Livan Soto back to Triple-A
Reds optioned INF Livan Soto to Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Soto heads back to the minors after a handful of contests with the Reds as a stopgap until top prospect Noelvi Marte was activated from the restricted list to make his season debut. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago
