    • Nick Lodolo serves up grand slam in loss to Giants
      Nick Lodolo surrendered four runs over six innings on Saturday in a loss to the Giants.

      Advice: Astonishingly, all of the damage against Lodolo came in the opening frame when the Giants struck for four runs, courtesy of a two-out grand slam from Matt Chapman, following a pair of hits and a walk. The 26-year-old southpaw settled in afterwards, keeping San Francisco off the scoreboard over his final five frames of work, but it wasn’t enough to take him off the hook for a loss. He finished with six strikeouts and only issued one walk, generating 13 swinging strikes and finishing with a respectable 33 percent CSW. He’ll bring a solid 3.34 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 43/9 K/BB ratio a cross 35 innings (six starts) into a tough road tilt on Thursday against a loaded Dodgers lineup. Rotoworld Today, 3:16 am
       
    • Stumbles in second start
      Means escaped with a no-decision in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Diamondbacks, giving up four runs on six hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out three without walking a batter.

      Advice: The southpaw got tagged for two runs in the third and fifth innings, but the Orioles scored in the eighth to tie up the game and take Means off the hook for his first loss before eventually walking it off in the 11th. He tossed 60 of 89 pitches for strikes, and he has a 3.09 ERA and 11:0 K:BB through his first 11.2 innings on the year.       Lodolo (3-2) took the loss Saturday versus the Giants, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings.

      Advice: His line is deceptive -- Lodolo permitted all four runs in the first inning on a Matt Chapman grand slam. He also gave up two hits in the fourth, but Lodolo escaped that rough patch with no further damage. The southpaw started the season with just five runs allowed over his first four starts, but he's been tagged for four runs in each of his last two outings. He's now at a 3.34 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB through 35 innings over six starts this season.       Fried (3-1) earned the win over the Mets on Saturday, allowing three walks while striking out five batters over seven scoreless and hitless innings.

      Advice: Fried threw 109 pitches during his seven frames, so manager Brian Snitker didn't allow him to push any further for an individual no-hitter. Atlanta's bullpen carried the no-no into the ninth inning before J.D. Martinez ended the combined bid with a two-out solo homer off Raisel Iglesias. Though he didn't etch his name in the record books, Fried bounced back very nicely after giving up four runs over seven frames and picking up his first loss in his previous outing.       Cortes (1-4) took the loss Saturday in Tampa Bay, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: Cortes had just eight walks all season coming into this outing and half of those came in his first two starts. He issued a season-high three free passes in this one and it's the first time since April 14 that he didn't go at least six frames.       Brujan went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Phillies.

      Advice: Brujan got the scoring started in this one with a leadoff blast off Taijuan Walker in the bottom of the fifth inning. It was his first home run as a Marlin and just his fourth in 130 major-league games. Brujan also singled and was caught stealing, and added an additional run after reaching on a fielder's choice. The 26-year-old has become an everyday player for the Marlins over the last two weeks, starting 13 of the last 15 contests.       Luzardo (0-3) took the loss Saturday versus the Phillies, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He recorded eight strikeouts.

      Advice: Luzardo looked sharp in his return from the injured list, striking out eight while picking up an impressive 18 swinging strikes on just 79 pitches. He might have tired a bit in the sixth, as he gave up a double and a game-tying RBI single before being lifted with two outs and a runner on. That runner came around to score, adding another run to his ledger. While the ending of his night wasn't ideal, it was an encouraging performance from Luzardo against a tough lineup.       Nestor Cortes struggled in Saturday’s loss to the Rays, giving up four runs on five hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work.

      Advice: Cortes punched out five batters on the afternoon, but also issued three free passes. The 29-year-old southpaw struggled to keep the baseball in the yard, giving up a leadoff homer to Yandy Diaz to start the home half of the first and then a three-run bomb to Randy Arozarena in the third — accounting for all of the damage done against him. Cortes generated 11 swings and misses on 89 pitches on the afternoon, posting a CSW of 31 percent.       John Means allowed four runs over 4 2/3 innings Saturday against the Diamondbacks while not factoring into the decision.

      Advice: Means was outstanding Saturday against the Reds. This outing would best be described as shaky at best. The left-hander gave up six hits, and he struck out three while not issuing a walk. The 31-year-old gave up a two-run homer to Ketel Marte in the third, and two more were charged to him after he exited with one out in the fifth.
