• Fans eight in no-decision
Cortes came away with a no-decision in Friday's 5-3 extra-inning loss to the Red Sox, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: The southpaw was at his baffling best, tossing 68 of 97 pitches for strikes and leaving the mound in line for his fifth win of the season. A blown save by Clay Holmes forced Cortes to settle for his ninth quality start, and he'll take a 3.41 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 106:20 K:BB through 111 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Tampa Bay. • Shaky but records save
Foley allowed two runs on four hits but managed to secure the save in Friday's 5-4 win over the Reds.

Advice: Foley started the ninth inning with a 5-2 lead but was generally ineffective as he allowed Cincinnati back into the game before eventually escaping. Despite the blip, the righty has been mostly solid this year, compiling a 3.26 ERA across 30.1 innings and recording 14 saves in 16 chances. Foley isn't the most exciting option, but as long as he remains the closer in Detroit, he'll maintain fantasy value. Rotowire.com Today, 6:45 am
  • Struggles after rain delay
Houck came away with a no-decision in Friday's 5-3 extra-inning win over the Yankees, giving up three runs (one earned) on two hits and four walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out one.

Advice: The right-hander was looking sharp early, but a 38-minute rain delay in the middle of the third inning caused Houck to lose his focus and he fell apart completely in the fourth. He's winless in his last four starts, stumbling to a 5.40 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 17:8 K:BB through 20 innings over that stretch, but he figures to bounce back in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against Oakland. • Bobby Witt Jr. scores run, picks up two hits in loss
Bobby Witt Jr. went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a loss to the Rockies on Friday.

Advice: Witt Jr. has doubled 25 times in 2024, and he came around to score after his two-bagger Friday on a single by Salvador Perez. He came up just short in the All-Star voting, but barring something completely unforeseeable he’ll definitely be involved in the game with a slash of .321/.371/.559 over his 90 games. • Pummels three homers
Smith went 3-for-3 with three solo home runs, two walks and four total runs scored in Friday's 8-5 win over the Brewers.

Advice: Smith hit just two homers in June, so he's already off to a fantastic start in July. The catcher went to the opposite field for his first-inning blast before pulling his solo shots in the third and seventh innings. Smith is up to a .276/.349/.502 slash line with 14 homers, 53 RBI, 45 runs scored, 18 doubles and one triple over 73 contests this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:24 pm

  • Shane Baz takes loss to Rangers in 2024 debut
Shane Baz took a loss after allowing three runs in six innings Friday against the Rangers in his 2024 debut.

Advice: Baz allowed four singles and one double in the third, resulting in all three runs. He gave up just two additional hits and wound up with six strikeouts and one walk in the quality start. Unfortunately, quality starts aren’t enough for Rays pitchers this season, as the offense has proven incapable of scoring consistently. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:22 pm
  • Tanner Houck pulled during sloppy fourth inning
Tanner Houck was charged with three runs — one earned — in 3 1/3 innings Friday versus the Yankees.

Advice: Houck lost his command after a brief rain delay interrupted his start tonight, but he still would have gotten through four scoreless if Enmanuel Valdez hadn’t botched a double play ball, resulting in no outs. At the same time, it wasn’t Valdez’s fault that Houck walked three in the inning. On the night, just 33 of his 68 pitches were strikes. It was a second straight rough outing, though at least this one didn’t take a toll on his ERA, which is still fifth in the AL at 2.68. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:58 pm
  • Nestor Cortes strikes out eight against Red Sox
Nestor Cortes held the Red Sox to one run in six innings and struck out eight in the Yankees’ 3-1 victory Friday.

Advice: Cortes gave up 410-, 397- and 386-foot flyballs, but Yankee Stadium managed to hold two of them, with only Romy Gonzalez leaving the yard. Cortes remained stuck at 4-7 while improving his now 3.41 ERA and 105/20 K/BB ratio through 111 innings. He’ll get the Rays next time out. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:58 pm

  • Will Smith homers three times in win over Brewers
Will Smith hit three homers to help the Dodgers to an 8-5 win over the Brewers on Friday.

Advice: Three homers is a lot. Smith hit two of his dingers off Aaron Civale, and he took Bryan Hudson deep for his third roundtripper of the contest and the 14th of the season. On top of those homers, Smith also drew two walks. Smith continues to be among — of not the — best catchers in the sport and is slashing a strong .276/.349/.502 with 53 RBI. There’s plenty of reasons to believe he’ll be just as good or better in the second half of the year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:45 pm
