• Tosses bullpen Monday
Musgrove (elbow) threw a "light" bullpen session Monday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Musgrove completed his first bullpen session since going on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation in early May. The right-hander is expected to throw another side session Wednesday, and if that goes well, he could return to the Padres rotation without needing a rehab stint. Musgrove is tracking toward making his next start during San Diego's series in Atlanta during the upcoming weekend. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:03 am

  • Survives wild outing
Kopech allowed two walks and struck out one across a scoreless ninth inning in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals.

Advice: Kopech entered the game in the ninth inning with a four-run lead and successfully closed out the game. It was his first appearance since May 9, and he struggled with his control, walking a pair and also throwing a pair of wild pitches. Despite being shaky in this appearance, Kopech has now allowed only one earned across his last 7.1 innings. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:07 am

  • Eight Ks in no-decision
Pivetta came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Rays, allowing two runs on four hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight without walking a batter.

Advice: The right-hander generated an impressive 32 called or swinging strikes among his 81 pitches, but both runs off Pivetta came on solo shots by Josh Lowe and Randy Arozarena, with the latter chasing him from the game one out short of his second quality start of the season. Pivetta has served up five homers in two starts since coming off the IL, a worrisome trend, but he'll carry a 3.48 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 22:2 K:BB through 20.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in St. Louis. • Sonny Gray yields five runs to Angels in win
Sonny Gray won despite giving up five runs in six innings Tuesday against the Angels.

Advice: Gray had a 0.89 ERA after five starts, but he’s given up 11 runs in his last two outings, putting him at 3.05. On the plus side, he still has an impressive 53/8 K/BB ratio in 41 1/3 innings. We ‘re not very concerned at this point; Gray will likely get hurt against eventually, but he should be plenty good until then. Rotoworld Tuesday, 11:24 pm

  • Allows five runs in win
Gray (5-2) earned the win Tuesday over the Angels, giving up five runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out nine.

Advice: Gray was shaky for a second straight start in allowing 11 earned runs over his last 11 innings, but he at least got ample run support this time around. The Cardinals took a 5-0 lead in the third inning, which Gray gave back by the end of the fifth. He ended up with the win after Alec Burleson's two-run home run put St. Louis ahead for good in the top of the seventh. Gray is now at a 3.05 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 53:8 K:BB over 41.1 innings across seven starts this season. The veteran right-hander is projected to face the Orioles in a tough home start in his next outing. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:22 pm

  • Nick Pivetta bounces back with solid effort vs TB
Nick Pivetta allowed two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Rays.

Advice: Pivetta struck out eight on the day while walking none, but he was doomed by two solo home runs. The right-hander got back on track after his rough return from the IL, posting a 29 percent whiff rate and 40 percent CSW. His sweeper was particularly dominant, getting five whiffs on eight swings and posting a 47 percent CSW. Pivetta also threw his curveball 1.3 mph harder than usual and found some success with it, so that’s something to watch for future starts. He’ll take a 3.48 ERA into an appealing start against a reeling Cardinals offense this weekend. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:27 pm

  • Complete game vs. Mets
Nola (5-2) earned the win, allowing just four hits over nine shutout innings Tuesday against the Mets. He struck out eight.

Advice: Nola was dominant Tuesday, holding the Mets without a baserunner until the sixth inning en route to the fourth complete-game shutout of his career. It's certainly an encouraging outing for Nola after he'd posted a subpar 5.59 ERA over his previous two starts (9.2 innings). The 30-year-old right-hander lowered his ERA to 3.10 on the season with a 1.09 WHIP and 55:15 K:BB through nine outings (58 innings). Nola's currently in line to make a second start this week Sunday at home versus the Nationals. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 3:44 pm

  • Aaron Nola hurls fourth career shutout versus Mets
Aaron Nola pitched his fourth career shutout Tuesday with a four-hitter in the Phillies’ 4-0 win over the Mets.

Advice: Nola struck out eight and walked none in the 109-pitch outing. The shutout was nearly lost in the ninth, when Jeff McNeil doubled with one out and Starling Marte singled with two. Under other circumstances, McNeil might have tried to score on the hit to left, though it made no sense in the four-run game today. Nola’s shutout is the fifth by an MLB pitcher this year. Teammate Ranger Suárez had one of the others. Nola is now 5-2 with a 3.10 ERA. Rotoworld Tuesday, 1:13 pm

  • Strikes out seven in no-decision
Montgomery allowed three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Reds on Monday.

Advice: Montgomery turned in an okay outing, missing out on a quality start for the second time in five games for the Diamondbacks. He's pitched to a 4.76 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB over 28.1 innings this season. Montgomery's had a bit of trouble racking up strikeouts so far as he's had to get up to speed on the job after signing with Arizona in late March. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Tigers. Rotowire.com Monday, 11:16 pm
