    • Tyler Alexander hit hard in loss to Yankees
Tyler Alexander allowed six runs on seven hits over seven innings in a loss to the Yankees on Sunday.

Advice: Alexander didn’t have any terrible innings, but the Yankees hit him hard all afternoon, and the Rays were clearly trying to preserve their bullpen by leaving Alexander in. All told, he threw only 90 pitches and 64 strikes but had just an 11 percent whiff rate. He’ll make a few more starts until Shane Baz is ready to come off the IL, but he’s not a recommended start next weekend in Toronto. Rotoworld 6 minutes ago

    • Giants recall Luis Matos from Triple-A on Sunday
Giants recalled OF Luis Matos from Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: With Michael Conforto (hamstring) heading to the 10-day injured list — and Jorge Soler (shoulder) already stationed there — Matos will join the big league club to add some depth to a depleted outfield. The 22-year-old was hitting just .218/.308/.355 with three homers, 17 RBI and three stolen bases across 31 games at Triple-A Sacramento. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago

    • Carlos Santana homers in third straight game
Carlos Santana homered in a third straight game Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: It’s the second time in three weeks that he’s homered in three straight games, which is kind of weird, in that he’s hit just one homer in his other 31 games. The three-run shot today accounted for all of the runs off Alek Manoah in the game. Santana also had a single. He’s upped his OPS from .601 to .697 the last three days. • Brandon Nimmo (ribs) hopes to return on Monday
Brandon Nimmo (intercostal) expects to return to the Mets’ lineup on Monday.

Advice: The 31-year-old outfielder was pulled from Saturday’s game due to right intercostal irritation. He tried to talk manager Carlos Mendoza into letting him play on Sunday, but was unable to convince him. It does not sound like he’ll require a trip to the injured list though and should return to the Mets’ lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Phillies. Rotoworld 31 minutes ago

    • Scratched from lineup Sunday
Bailey has been scratched from the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Reds, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Bailey was set to start at DH and bat in the cleanup spot, but he has since been removed from the lineup. Wilmer Flores will take over as the designated hitter Sunday and will bat fourth against Reds right-hander Frankie Montas. Rotowire.com 39 minutes ago
    • Effective in second rehab outing
Kahnle (shoulder) tossed a perfect inning in a rehab appearance with Single-A Tampa on Saturday, striking out one batter.

Advice: Kahnle threw of 10 of 15 pitches for strikes in the appearance and got up to 95.5 mph with his sinker, per Conor Foley of YES Network. The veteran reliever has completed two of what is expected to be at least five rehab outings, pitching two perfect frames with three strikeouts thus far. If all goes well for Kahnle during the remainder of his rehab stint, he could join the major-league bullpen within the next two weeks. Rotowire.com 46 minutes ago

    • Goes on Triple-A IL
Triple-A Norfolk placed Zimmermann on its 7-day injured list Sunday with a hamstring injury, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Advice: Zimmermann presumably suffered the injury during his most recent outing for Norfolk on Saturday. The 29-year-old lefty remains on the Orioles' 40-man roster but has pitched exclusively at the Triple-A level so far this season, logging a 4.35 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 34:13 K:BB across 39.1 innings. • Recalled by San Francisco
The Giants recalled Matos from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday.

Advice: After Michael Conforto sustained a right hamstring strain in Saturday's game against the Reds, Matos was pulled from his outing at Triple-A Sacramento in case the former's injury was serious. With Conforto placed on the 10-day IL, Matos will be brought up to the majors to give the Giants depth at left field alongside Heliot Ramos. In Triple-A this season, Matos is slashing .221/.312/.361 with three home runs and 17 RBI over 141 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 12:53 pm

    • Close to facing hitters again
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Effross (back) is close to facing hitters again, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Effross' last appearance in affiliated ball came Oct. 3, 2022, with the right-handed reliever requiring Tommy John surgery later that month. Though he's fully healed from the elbow surgery, Effross experienced back discomfort last fall and ultimately required a microdiscectomy of his L-4 and L-5 vertabrae. Effross was held back in spring training while he completed his recovery from back surgery, but he seems to have resumed throwing bullpen sessions without issue and should soon take the mound against live hitters. The Yankees are hopeful that Effross will be ready to return from the 60-day injured list at some point during the summer. Rotowire.com Today, 12:44 pm
