• Willson Contreras continues making rapid progress
Willson Contreras (forearm) progressed to throwing and catching on Thursday at Busch Stadium.

Advice: Contreras is making rapid progress in his recovery from surgery to repair a fractured left forearm and there’s optimism that he’ll be ready to return earlier than originally anticipated. The 32-year-old backstop wasn’t expected back until sometime around the All-Star break, but it’s looking like he could return before the end of the month, barring any setbacks. There should be some clarity on his timeline once he undergoes a CT scan on Friday to determine whether he’ll be cleared to resume hitting. Rotoworld 57 minutes ago

  • Doing field work
Contreras (forearm) was throwing, catching and running on the field prior to Thursday's game against the Rockies, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Contreras has been participating in all three activities since the Cardinals' last stretch of road games. It's an encouraging sign that the 32-year-old backstop is recovering well from his fractured left forearm, but he still is not expected back until closer to the All-Star break. Until then, Ivan Herrera will continue to serve as St. Louis' primary catcher. Rotowire.com Today, 2:38 pm

  • Strikes out seven in no-decision
Bibee allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk over five innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Royals. He struck out seven.

Advice: Bibee allowed just one unearned run through his first five innings Thursday, though he'd be charged with two runs in the sixth after allowing the first two batters to reach. Still, it was another decent effort from the 25-year-old right-hander -- Bibee now has seven strikeouts in back-to-back outings while pitching to a 2.12 ERA over his last five starts. Overall, he's 4-1 on the year with a 3.73 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 76:19 K:BB through 70 innings. Bibee's currently in line for a road matchup with the Reds in his next outing. • Tanner Bibee fans seven, allows two earned vs. KC
Tanner Bibee allowed three runs — two of them earned — while firing five innings in a no-decision against the Royals on Thursday.

Advice: Bibee struck out seven against one free pass, and he allowed six hits. The 25-year-old allowed a run in the first on a double to Vinnie Pasquantino, but he settle down nicely before being charged for a pair in the sixth without recording an out. Bibee has been a slight fantasy disappointment in 2024, but there’s still reason for optimism in both the short and long-term. He’s set to square off with the Reds in Cincinnati on Wednesday. • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. swats three-run homer in win
Vladimir Guerrero popped a three-run homer Thursday to help the Blue Jays to a win over the Orioles.

Advice: Vladdy Jr. gave Cade Povich a rude introduction during Povich’s MLB debut with a three-run blast in the third. The 25-year-old also drew a walk and singled. Guerrero Jr. has made loads of hard contact and certainly has been a contributor in the average category with a .295 RBI, but it’s great to see the infielder start to drive the baseball on a more consistent basis as of late. • Getting breather
Buxton isn't in the Twins' lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: Buxton has gone hitless in 14 at-bats since the beginning of June, and the Twins will give him a day off to regroup during Thursday's series finale. Willi Castro will fill the opening in center field, allowing Kyle Farmer to start at second base while batting eighth. Rotowire.com Today, 11:12 am
  • Not starting versus lefty
Rojas is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Rojas will exit the starting nine while the Athletics bring southpaw JP Sears to the hill. Dylan Moore started at second base in Seattle's last two games but will shift over to third base Thursday while Rojas takes a seat. Rotowire.com Today, 10:05 am

  • Homers in third straight contest
Diaz went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Diaz got Houston on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning, smacking a solo shot off Miles Mikolas the opposite way to cut the Astros deficit to 3-1. It's the third straight game with a home run for Diaz, who's up to six long balls on the season. The 25-year-old backstop is now slashing .250/.278/.397 with 29 RBI and 21 runs scored across 216 plate appearances this year. Rotowire.com Today, 7:18 am

  • Continues power surge
Santander went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Advice: Santander produced the first run of the contest with his solo shot to right field in the second inning. He's gone deep in three of his past five contests to push his season total to 12 long balls. Santander is also working on an eight-game hitting streak during which he's gone 11-for-30 (.367 average) with three homers, six RBI and seven runs. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:51 pm
