    Willson Contreras hit a two-run homer on Wednesday in the Cardinals’ extra-inning loss at the hands of the Pirates.

    Advice: Contreras walloped a game-tying shot off Pirates reliever Colin Holderman, who has been outstanding this season in a setup role for Pittsburgh, in the eighth inning to help send this one to extra innings. It was his lone hit in three at-bats, but he also drew a pair of walks in this one.   • On verge of rehab assignment
    Bogaerts (shoulder) could begin a rehab assignment within the next day or two, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union Tribune reports.

    Advice: Bogaerts had a CT scan of his left shoulder Monday, the results of which indicated that he is ready to resume playing. Acee indicates that the infielder will likely head out on a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso in the coming days, and team officials have previously suggested that a rehab stint would last 7 to 10 days. Though manager Mike Shildt recently said that there is no timeline for Bogaerts' activation from the injured list, if all goes well moving forward, he could rejoin the Padres for their home series against Atlanta that begins July 12.     Rojas went 2-for-2 in a loss to the Orioles on Tuesday.

    Advice: Rojas' pair of singles were the only hits the Mariners' moribund offense was able to muster against Grayson Rodriguez and a trio of relievers. The veteran infielder has emerged from a recent 0-for-13, four-game skid in solid fashion, going 5-for-13 over the next four contests, albeit with just one extra-base hit (a double) in that span.     The Brewers acquired Civale from the Rays on Wednesday in exchange for minor-league infielder Gregory Barrios, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

    Advice: Civale has an ERA north of 5.00 through 17 starts this season, but his xFIP is almost a full run lower at 4.09, and he should help stabilize the rotation for the division-leading Brewers.     Brewers acquired RHP Aaron Civale from the Rays, according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.

    Advice: The Rays acquired Civale last July from the Guardians in a deal for Kyle Mansardo. He went 4-9 with a 5.17 ERA in 27 starts for the Rays. Civale has a 5.07 ERA despite a 4.09 xFIP this season so this could be a shrewd pickup by the Brewers. Not much has changed with his fantasy value as he moves into the Milwaukee rotation.     Evan Phillips earned his first victory of the 2024 season on Tuesday despite allowing a solo homer in the ninth inning against the Diamondbacks,

    Advice: Phillips came on to work with the score tied at four runs apiece heading to the ninth inning. He struck out Ketel Marte to start the frame but then served up a go-ahead solo homer to Joc Pederson before retiring the next to hitters. He was then the beneficiary of a vultured win after the Dodgers rallied for two runs in the home half of the ninth. On the season, the 29-year-old closer now boasts a 2.10 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 27/8 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings on the year to go along with 13 saves in 13 chances.     Phillips (1-0) allowed a run on one hit and struck out one over one inning but earned the win Tuesday over the Diamondbacks.

The homer was just the second Phillips has allowed all year, though this was the second outing in a row he's been scored on.     Anthony Santander went 2-for-4 and drove in a run on Tuesday evening, leading the Orioles to a 2-0 victory over the Mariners in Seattle.

    Advice: Santander broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning as he smacked an RBI single into right field off of George Kirby in the fourth inning that plated Gunnar Henderson. The 29-year-old outfielder also led off the second inning with a single, but he was ultimately erased on a double play.
