• Will Brennan homers, doubles in Guardians’ win
Will Brennan homered and doubled Friday in the Guardians’ 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Brennan homered for the first time since May 19 and doubled for the first time since May 7. The Guardians can and should try to do a little better in the outfield prior to the deadline. Brennan could still have a role afterwards, but he’s not someone who should be starting regularly versus righties. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:13 pm

  • Marcell Ozuna crushes 19th home run in win
Marcell Ozuna went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, walk, and two runs scored against the Rays on Friday.

Advice: Ozuna got the Braves going early, taking Zack Littell deep to the opposite field in the first inning and Atlanta wouldn’t look back. Ozuna tied Kyle Tucker for third in the league with 19 home runs and has been one of the best offensive players in baseball so far this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:03 pm
  • MRI reveals significant strain
Manager Dave Martinez said Friday that Gallo's MRI revealed a "significant hamstring strain," Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Martinez didn't give a return timeline for Gallo, simply saying that the 30-year-old will be out for "a while." Joey Meneses has been acting as Washington's primary first baseman since Gallo landed on the injured list Wednesday, but it's possible the Nationals decide to add someone from their farm system or outside the organization to help split the workload. • Jake Cave (head) scratched from Rockies’ lineup
Jake Cave was scratched from the Rockies’ starting lineup on Friday after sustaining a “minor cut to his forehead” when he was hit in the side of the head by a line drive during batting practice.

Advice: It sounds like he was fortunate to have avoided a more serious injury, but Rockies’ skipper Bud Black said he would provide another update on his status after Friday’s game. Elehuris Montero will take his place in the Rockies lineup, with Charlie Blackmon shifting from designated hitter to right field. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:29 pm

  • DFA'd by Pirates
The Pirates designated Goodrum for assignment Friday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: Pittsburgh claimed Goodrum Monday, but he'll return to waivers Friday after going 2-for-15 with seven strikeouts in four appearances with Triple-A Indianapolis. The Pirates are Goodrum's third stop of the season, starting the year with Tampa Bay before spending time in the Angels system. In 33 MLB plate appearances this season, Goodrum owns a .291 OPS. • Pirates designate Niko Goodrum for assignment
Pirates designated INF Niko Goodrum for assignment.

Advice: Less than a week after being claimed off of waivers from the Angels, Goodrum finds himself off the 40-man roster once more so that the Pirates had a roster spot available for Josh Fleming on Friday. The versatile 32-year-old makes for a nice utility option and will probably attract interest on waivers once again this time around. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:12 pm

  • Sitting Friday
Smith is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Smith will begin Friday's series opener in the dugout after starting in the last two games, going 4-for-7. He's been one of the hottest hitters in June, slashing .368/.429/.526 with seven runs, one home run and two RBI. Ezequiel Duran and Davis Wendzel will start at shortstop and third base, respectively, against Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:06 pm

  • Jake Cave suffers injury during batting practice
Jake Cave had to be carted off the field on Friday after taking a line drive off his head during batting practice.

Advice: Cave was down on the ground for roughly 10 minutes before he was carted off the field in a scary situation pregame on Friday. He’ll head for further evaluation. Look for the Rockies to provide an update on his status as soon as one becomes available. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:38 pm

  • Getting breather Friday
Velazquez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers.

Advice: After starting in each of the Royals last four games, Velazquez will get the day off Friday. Adam Frazier will DH and bat fifth while Drew Waters fills in at right field and bats eighth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:36 pm
