Bednar (1-2) took the loss Friday against the Giants after he allowed three runs on two hits and a walk without recording an out.

Advice: Pirates manager Derek Shelton turned to his closer in the bottom of the ninth of a scoreless tie, but Bednar gave up a walk and a single before serving up a walk-off, three-run homer to Patrick Bailey. Bednar entered the contest with three straight scoreless appearances, but he has now allowed at least three runs in three separate outings and has a 12.00 ERA across nine innings overall. The right-hander is 4-for-7 in save opportunities and has seen his job security decline significantly after beginning the campaign as one of the top closers in MLB with 58 saves and a 2.27 ERA in the previous two seasons. • David Bednar struggles again, allows walk-off HR
David Bednar didn’t record an out while giving up a three-run homer and picking up a loss to the Giants on Friday.

Advice: Oof. Bednar walked Michael Conforto to open the ninth, and after walking Matt Chapman, the 29-year-old gave up a three-run homer to Patrick Bailey to turn a 0-0 game into a 3-0 win for the Giants. This is already the third appearance of the year where Bednar has allowed three or more runs, and that helps explain why his ERA is now 12.00. There’s lots of reasons to expect Bednar to bounce back in the summer months, but fantasy managers have the right to be frustrated with how he’s pitched in April. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:51 pm
    • Zach Eflin struggles in loss to White Sox
Zach Eflin struggled in a losing effort against the White Sox on Friday evening, surrendering five runs (four earned) on nine hits over his six frames.

Advice: The right-hander also issued a pair of walks while striking out four batters on the night. The White Sox scratched out single runs against him in the third and fourth innings, but the biggest blow came on an unlikely three-run blast from light-hitting backstop Martin Maldonado in the sixth. Eflin generated eight swings and misses on 90 pitches on the night, posting a strong CSW of 33 percent. He’ll carry a 4.08 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 30/4 K/BB ratio (35 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Brewers in Milwaukee. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:27 pm

    • Has torn cartilage in ribcage
Casas revealed Friday that he's dealing with torn cartilage in his left ribcage, not a fractured rib as had been previously reported, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: The injury is an unusual one and carries a wide range of potential recovery timelines, with Casas saying it could be anywhere from three to nine weeks before he's cleared for cardio and strengthening activities. Once that happens, he would presumably need a few more weeks before he's game-ready. Casas did add that he's very optimistic he'll be back at some point this season, it's just unclear when that might be. Bobby Dalbec is currently filling in at first base for the Red Sox. • Casas (rib) suffered torn cartilage, not fracture
Triston Casas told reporters that he didn’t fracture his rib, but rather suffered torn cartilage.

Advice: It’s a bit of a twist for Casas’ injury that was initially reported as a broken rib, but the 24-year-old is dealing with torn cartilage that is a bit unusual with a non-contact injury. Despite the change of diagnosis, Casas’ timetable to return is still very much in question ranging from three weeks to nine weeks before he can start ramping up for his return. He was optimistic that he can return this season, but for the time being, it’s a huge loss for the Boston’s lineup and fantasy managers. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:45 pm

    • Swipes first bag
Vaught went 2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's loss to the Twins.

Advice: Vaughn singled in his first trip to the plate before stealing his first base of the season. He added a double in his next at-bat, then came around to score on a Paul DeJong single to put Chicago up 2-0, marking the first baseman's first multi-hit performance since April 9 against the Guardians. Vaughn is batting just .170 (15-for-88) following the two-hit effort, though he has hit safely in three of his last four games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:37 am

    • Goes deep in victory
Hernandez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday in a 2-1 win over Washington.

Advice: Hernandez's second-inning solo shot put the Dodgers on the board and amounted for half of the team's total output of runs in the low-scoring win. The long ball was the slugger's sixth of the campaign and his first over his past 11 contests. Hernandez has trailed off a bit of late after a strong start to his Dodgers tenure, but he still ranks second on the team and is tied for 11th in the majors with 20 RBI. • Zack Wheeler stymies Reds in win
Zack Wheeler threw six shutout innings in a 5-0 win over the Reds, allowing just one hit while striking out eight.

Advice: Wheeler did walk four batters on the day but he also posted an impressive 36 percent whiff rate and 33 percent CSW. He beat the Reds with heat today, getting the most whiffs on both his four-seamer and sinker, and got only a 17 percent chase rate. Basically, he came at the Reds in the zone and they weren’t able to handle it on Thursday. The effort lowered his season ERA to 1.93 and he’ll look to keep it going in a much easier matchup against the Angels next time out. Rotoworld Thursday, 2:17 pm

    • Vaughn has two hits in loss to Twins
Andrew Vaughn went 2-for-5 with a run scored in a loss to the Twins on Thursday.

Advice: The White Sox had nine hits and Vaughn was the only one with an extra-base hit when he laced a 103.3 mph shot off Simeon Woods-Richardson in the fourth inning. The 26-year-old is slashing a disappointing .170/.255/.216 on the season and has yet to grow into the power hitter that his prospect pedigree suggested he could be. With poor lineup context around him, it’s hard to roster Vaughn in most formats right now, but just keep an eye on him in case he starts to heat up as the weather warms. Rotoworld Thursday, 1:54 pm
