    • Jeimer Candelario goes 0-for-4 in defeat
Jeimer Candelario finished 0-for-4 with three strikeouts against the Rangers on Friday.

Advice: Candelario would have been one to avoid in fantasy drafts this year if only he had signed with almost any other team. With the Reds, though, there was reason to think he’d maintain ample mixed-league value. Instead, his exit velocity numbers are way down and his strikeout rate is way up, making this a truly miserable April for the 30-year-old. It doesn’t seem likely that he’ll remain this bad, but he’s fortunate that the Noelvi Marte suspension and Matt McLain injury have left his playing time unchallenged. • Homer, four hits in win
Smith went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and three total RBI in Friday's 12-2 victory over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Smith extended Los Angeles' lead to 3-0 in the third inning with an RBI single before adding a solo home run, his second of the year, off Trevor Richards in the fourth. It's Smith's second straight four-hit game (he's gone 8-for-11 with three extra-base hits in that span) and already his fourth this season. The 29-year-old backstop is off to an excellent start, slashing a robust .376/.413/.527 with 21 RBI and 14 runs scored through his first 104 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:25 pm

    • Eloy Jiménez goes deep as White Sox crush Rays
Eloy Jiménez clobbered his third home run of the season on Friday night, helping to power the White Sox to a lopsided victory over the Rays.

Advice: The 27-year-old slugger contributed to a rare offensive explosion for the White Sox, smashing a 410-foot (108.2 mph EV) two-run shot off of Erasmo Ramirez in the seventh inning that increased the White Sox’ advantage to 7-2. It was his only hit in four at-bats on the night — which also included a pair of strikeouts. On the season, Jiménez is now hitting .204/.291/.388 to go along with his three long balls and eight RBI. • Will Smith homers, collects fourth four-hit game
Will Smith went 4-for-5 with a homer, a double and three RBI against the Blue Jays on Friday.

Advice: The 360-foot homer was actually just his third farthest hit ball of the night, as he also had a 374-foot sac fly and a 367-foot double. Smith has been spraying hits since day one, but the homer was just his second of the year. It’s his fourth four-hit game. Only three other players entered the day with even two of them (Mookie Betts with three and Yordan Alvarez and Ketel Marte with two apiece). Smith is batting .376/.413/.527 with 21 RBI in 24 games. • Jhoan Duran (oblique) to make rehab outing Saturday
Jhoan Duran (oblique) is scheduled to pitch in a minor league rehab game at Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, after Friday’s scheduled appearance was rained out.

Advice: As long as everything goes well with that outing, it sounds like the Twins’ closer could be cleared to make his 2024 season debut. Duran threw 27 pitches his last time out and should be expected to have a similar workload on Saturday. It sounds like Griffin Jax’s usefulness from a fantasy perspective could be coming to an end soon. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:04 pm

    • Back in starting lineup Friday
Drury (hamstring) is starting as the designated hitter and batting fifth in Friday's game against the Twins, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: After returning to action for all three games against the Reds last weekend, Drury missed the past three contests against the Orioles due to a lingering left hamstring injury. The three-game absence, along with the Angels' off day Thursday, seems to have done the trick for Drury, as he'll start at DH for the series opener Friday versus Minnesota. The 31-year-old is slashing .194/.270/.269 with two doubles, six runs, one home run and four RBI over 74 plate appearances to begin the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:15 pm

    • Going through full workout
Burger (oblique) will go through a full on-field workout Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Burger is nearly two weeks removed from suffering a left intercostal strain and is finally ready to resume all baseball activities. It would appear a rehab assignment is just around the corner, with a return sometime in early- to mid-May if all goes well. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:53 pm

    • Throws bullpen session
Darvish (neck) threw a bullpen session Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Darvish's bullpen session marked his first time throwing off a mound since he landed on the 15-day injured list April 17 with neck tightness. Padres manager Mike Shildt indicated that Darvish wasn't throwing with full effort, saying the right-hander "was on the gas, but didn't have it to the floor." Darvish will likely require at least one or two more bullpen sessions before progressing to facing hitters and then perhaps heading out on a rehab assignment. There's no clear timeline yet for his return to San Diego's rotation. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:57 am

    • Braves activate Ozzie Albies for Friday return
Braves activated 2B Ozzie Albies from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Albies returns to the active roster following a stay on the injured list with a fractured right toe. It’s amazing that the 27-year-old needed just the minimum 10 days on the injured list before making his return with the injury he had. On top of that, he was doing fielding drills this past weekend to get ramped up for live action. He’ll be a boost for the Braves’ offense and for fantasy managers as he’s on pace for a career season with a .317/.386/.492 batting line in his first 15 games. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:37 am
