Kyle Finnegan slams door on Marlins in ninth
Kyle Finnegan secured his eighth save of the season on Friday night, working a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a two-run lead against the Marlins.
Advice: The 32-year-old right-hander made things look awfully easy in this one, getting Josh Bell on a swinging third strike, Jesus Sanchez on a line out to shortstop and Tim Anderson on a ground ball to second — needing only six pitches (all strikes) to get the job done. The underlying metrics aren’t great, but it’s hard to argue with the results that Finnegan has put up so far. He now boasts a 2.38 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 10/5 K/BB ratio over 11 1/3 innings while converting eight of his first nine save chances.
