    • Making adjustments
The Red Sox advised Rafaela to hold his hands lower in his stance, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports. He went 0-for-4 in Wednesday's loss to Baltimore and is batting .206 with a 25.7 strikeout percentage.

Advice: The goal of the hands adjustment is to cut down on all the movement needed to catch up to fastballs. "Be on time," Boston manager Alex Cora said. "We've been talking about it, showing him examples. It happens that we're here, too, [in Baltimore] and can use [the Orioles] as an example of how short they are to the ball and how they use their hands." Rafaela's been inconsistent overall but has hit better recently, going 9-for-33 (.273) over the last nine games while batting safely in seven of those contests. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:34 am

    • Records fourth steal
Contreras went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 10-6 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Contreras has been held hitless just five times over 26 games in May, going 31-for-104 (.298) for the month. The catcher is up to a .323/.394/.509 slash line with eight home runs, four steals, 43 RBI, 45 runs scored, 15 doubles and a triple in 55 contests, so this month has actually been a bit of a cooling off compared to how he started the season. He's been able to have an everyday role between catcher and designated hitter as one of the best overall batters in baseball this season. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:06 pm
    • Targeting mid-June return
Drury (hamstring) said Wednesday that he is aiming to return from the injured list June 11, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Drury has been making steady progress since landing on the injured list May 9 due to a left hamstring injury. He got back to hitting in batting cages last week and recently began baseball activities and a running progression. The 31-year-old infielder will likely embark on a minor-league rehab assignment before being activated, though the Angels have not said when that might begin. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:08 pm

    • Tigers place Kerry Carpenter on IL due to back
Tigers placed OF Kerry Carpenter on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 27, with lumbar spine inflammation.

Advice: Carpenter’s back has been bothering him since the weekend, though the Tigers made no mention of it until today. It’s a big loss for the Tigers, as Carpenter has been easily the team’s best hitter (.283/.342/.572 in 163 PA). They’ll probably give Mark Canha a fair amount of DH time in the coming weeks and use Matt Vierling pretty regularly in the outfield, with Andy Ibáñez picking up some extra starts at third. • Five hits in twin bill
Freeman went 5-for-8 with a walk, a double, a home run and three RBI across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of the Mets.

Advice: The first baseman reached base three times in each contest, but most of his production came in the matinee, including a two-run shot off Jorge Lopez in the 10th inning. Freeman is heating up again, slashing .333/.381/.590 over the last 10 games with four doubles, two homers, five runs and nine RBI. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:52 am

    • Lands on IL with back injury
The Tigers placed Carpenter on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with lumbar spine inflammation.

Advice: Carpenter first felt some soreness in his back over the weekend and had hoped it would dissipate in subsequent days, but that hasn't happened. As a result, he'll miss at least the next week and a half of action, with manager A.J. Hinch noting that Carpenter is without a clear timetable for a return while he awaits further testing, per Jason Beck of MLB.com. Akil Baddoo was called up from Triple-A Toledo and could see some time in the outfield while he's with the big club, but the Tigers might be more apt to lean on Wenceel Perez in right field and Matt Vierling in center during Carpenter's absence. • On bench for opening game
Carpenter is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Pirates.

Advice: Carpenter will hit the bench for the first game of the day but should be back in the starting nine for the second contest of the twin bill. With Carpenter on the bench for Game 1, Wenceel Perez will slide over from center field and start in right field. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:32 am

    • Swipes bag in loss
Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Alvarez was just one of two Astros to have more than one hit on the evening and he recorded his second steal of the year in the sixth. Alvarez now has four multi-hit efforts in his last eight games and nine total for the month of May. For the season, the 27-year-old is slashing .269/.347/.447 with nine homers, 22 RBI, 27 runs and a 41:23 K:BB in 236 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:16 am

    • Plays outfield
Garcia started in right field and went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: This was Garcia's first start in the outfield since missing two games due to a forearm injury. He's gone 3-for-23 (.130) with a home run, a double and two RBI since his return. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:48 am
