    • Kyle Gibson gets scratched due to back tightness
Kyle Gibson was scratched from his start Wednesday against the Marlins due to back tightness.

Advice: Gibson was activated from the bereavement list before the game, but he won’t be able to go today. Matthew Liberatore is starting in his place. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:44 am

    • Late scratch with back tightness
Gibson was scratched from Wednesday's start in Miami due to back tightness, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: Matthew Liberatore will draw the start Wednesday on short notice, as Gibson's back must have tightened up on him while he was warming up before the game. Consider Gibson day-to-day until the Cardinals provide more details. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:43 am

    • Falters against D-backs
Irvin (5-6) took the loss Tuesday as the Nationals fell 5-0 to the Diamondbacks, giving up four runs on eight hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out two.

Advice: A lack of offensive support gave the right-hander no margin for error, but Irvin did himself no favors by tossing first-pitch strikes to only 11 of the 22 batters he faced and issuing a season high in free passes. In fact, the 27-year-old hadn't walked more than two batters in any 2024 start prior to Tuesday. Irvin will take a 3.24 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 71:19 K:BB through 86 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in Coors Field. • Activated from bereavement list
The Cardinals activated Gibson (personal) from the bereavement list Wednesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Gibson will start Wednesday's game in Miami after being away from the club for a few days to tend to personal matters. The right-hander is coming off arguably his best outing of the season, having struck out six over seven scoreless frames last Friday in a win over the Cubs. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:07 am

    • Falls short of quality start
Houck didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against Toronto, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: Houck ended up one out shy of a sixth consecutive quality start, getting pulled at 103 pitches after yielding an RBI single to Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Houck has struck out five or more batters in seven straight starts and owns a 4-2 record with a 2.17 ERA across 45.2 innings during that stretch. He's scheduled to close out a two-start week Sunday at Cincinnati. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:03 am
    • Strikes out six in win
Myers (4-2) allowed four hits and two walks while striking out six over 6.1 scoreless innings to earn the win over the Angels on Tuesday.

Advice: Myers rattled off his third consecutive quality start while matching his season high with the six strikeouts. The right-hander is quickly growing into a trusted starter for the Brewers amid the team's brutal run of injuries to pitchers. Myers has a 3.26 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 42:16 K:BB through 47 innings over 10 appearances (nine starts) this year. He doesn't stand out by most metrics, though he's been able to use his four-seam fastball, slider and changeup effectively so far. Myers is projected to make his next start on the road at San Diego. • Tobias Myers goes 6 1/3 scoreless in latest win
Tobias Myers blanked the Angels for 6 1/3 innings in the Brewers’ 6-3 victory Tuesday.

Advice: Myers moved to 4-2 with his third consecutive gem; he’s allowed just one run over 20 1/3 innings his last three times out. There’s little here to suggest continued dominance for Myers, but the Brewers have gotten quality results out of average arms and they back their pitchers with above average offense and defense. Myers is certainly a worth play in San Diego next time out. Rotoworld Tuesday, 10:20 pm

    • Collects another quality start
Lorenzen did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Mets, allowing three runs on four hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out three.

Advice: The veteran right-hander posted his sixth quality start in his last seven outings with this performance. Over that span dating back to May 13, Lorenzen has pitched to a 1.88 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 27:16 K:BB in 43 innings. He'll look to keep his stellar work going in his next start, tentatively slated to come against the Brewers on the road. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 9:15 pm
