Musgrove (elbow) lightly threw weighted plyometric balls Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: A previous report indicated Musgrove could play catch around the middle of the week, but it turns out the extent of his throwing was the work he did with the plyo balls. The workout was, however, a step in his progression toward playing catch, which could happen before the end of the month. Musgrove doesn't seem close to taking part in a rehab assignment and isn't likely to be activated off the 15-day injured list until after the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Saturday, 12:38 pm

    • Max Scherzer to make season debut on Sunday
Max Scherzer (back, thumb) will make his season debut on Sunday against the Royals.

Advice: The declaration comes directly from Scherzer, so we’re going to take his word for it. We’re still not sure why the decision was made to bump him back an extra day, but it doesn’t have significant fantasy ramifications. The 39-year-old veteran right-hander will make his season debut later this weekend after missing the first couple months of the year recovering from offseason back surgery and a thumb issue that cropped up during his rehabilitation process. He’s no longer an upper-echelon fantasy contributor, but he’s still capable of making an impact, when healthy, especially in deeper mixed leagues. Rotoworld Saturday, 9:38 am

    • Set for season debut Sunday
Scherzer (back/thumb) said Saturday that he'll return from the 60-day injured list to start in Sunday's series finale against the Royals, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: After completing his recovery from offseason back surgery in addition to moving past the thumb and forearm injuries that slowed down his rehab process, Scherzer was originally scheduled to make his 2024 debut Saturday. The Rangers ultimately elected to push Scherzer back another day, with manager Bruce Bochy opting to go with Jon Gray for the second game of the series. With Scherzer set to take the mound Sunday, Dane Dunning will be pushed back to start in Monday's series opener against the Brewers. After being acquired from the Mets ahead of the trade deadline last season, Scherzer went 4-2 over eight regular-season starts with the Rangers, posting a 3.20 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 53:15 K:BB in 45 innings. • Provides only offense Friday
Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Guardians.

Advice: The first baseman took Carlos Carrasco deep in the fourth inning, but it was all the offense the Blue Jays could muster in a 7-1 loss. Guerrero hadn't gone yard since June 6, and while he continues to scald the ball -- he's in the 99th percentile in average exit velocity and hard-hit rate -- a 5.9 degree average launch angle is costing him power. On the season, he's batting .281 with a career-low .406 SLG, eight homers and 31 RBI in 75 games. Rotowire.com Saturday, 8:56 am
    • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homers in loss
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 2-for-4 with a solo home run on Friday in a loss to the Guardians

Advice: This Blue Jays offense is a disaster. Guerrero’s solo shot was their only glimmer of offense before they loaded the bases in the ninth inning. The home run was Guerrero’s eighth, a very disappointing number as we near the midway point of the season. Rotoworld Friday, 6:50 pm
    • Homers, stays hot in win
Nimmo went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three runs scored in Friday's 11-1 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Nimmo was active early, walking and scoring a run in the first inning and hitting a home run in the second. He then singled and scored again in the fourth frame. Since moving to second in the lineup June 13, Nimmo has five multi-hit games, three home runs, 10 RBI and 12 runs scored. On the season, he is now slashing .244/.359/.424 with 10 homers, 42 RBI and 45 runs scored through 309 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Friday, 3:14 pm
    • Brandon Nimmo hits third homer in four games
Brandon Nimmo went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a walk and three runs scored versus the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: This has turned into quite a hot streak. Nimmo has three homers in four games, and he’s 14-for-29 in his last seven games, raising his season OPS from .708 to .783. Rotoworld Friday, 2:35 pm
    • Max Scherzer not starting for Rangers on Saturday
Rangers’ manager Bruce Bochy announced Friday that Jon Gray will start on Saturday against the Royals.

Advice: There had been speculation that Max Scherzer would make his 2024 season debut on Saturday, but it’ll be Gray getting the ball instead. Bochy was quick to point out that Scherzer has not had any sort of setback and could still return to start Sunday’s series finale against the Royals. Stay tuned. Rotoworld Friday, 2:33 pm

    • Return pushed back
Scherzer (back/thumb) won't start Saturday's game against the Royals, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Scherzer was initially expected to make his 2024 debut Saturday after undergoing offseason back surgery and more recently dealing with thumb and forearm injuries. Instead, Bruce Bochy will hand the ball to Jon Gray on Saturday, with starters for Sunday's series finale against Kansas City and Monday's series opener against Milwaukee still to be determined. Scherzer and Dane Dunning figure to fill the two starting slots, though it's unclear in what order. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:17 pm
