  • Pedro Pagés hits first major league home run
    Pedro Pagés hit his first big-league homer Friday against the Cubs.

    Advice: In the top of the eighth, Pagés hit a ball to left at 102.5 mph with a 32-degree launch angle and got it just into the basket over Ian Happ’s outstretched glove. 10 minutes later, Patrick Wisdom hit a ball to the same area at 111.0 mph with a 33-degree launch angle and somehow came up just short.   • To Triple-A IL with elbow injury
    Holliday was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Norfolk on Friday with right elbow inflammation, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

    Advice: It's not clear at this point how long the top prospect might be sidelined. While he's still drawing plenty of walks in June, Holliday has scuffled a bit overall this month, slashing .212/.422/.394. On the whole, he's hitting .252/.418/.429 with five homers in 40 games for Norfolk since being demoted.     Smith started at shortstop and went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Dodgers.

    Advice: Smith made another start at shortstop, as the Rangers are being careful with Corey Seager (hamstring). Seager had returned to action Wednesday, serving as the DH, and was originally in Thursday's starting lineup at DH before being scratched.     Corey Seager has been scratched from the lineup for Thursday’s series finale against the Dodgers due to left hamstring tightness.

    Advice: Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters they’re exercising an abundance of caution after Seager experienced some left hamstring tightness during his pregame routine. The lingering issue has caused him to miss four of the previous five games. The 30-year-old fantasy superstar blasted a three-run homer on Wednesday in his return to the lineup at his old stomping ground in Los Angeles and the expectation is that he’ll be ready for Friday’s series opener against the division-rival Mariners. The Orioles could summon the 20-year-old middle infielder at any point, but his return to the big leagues in the coming weeks is more of a possibility than an inevitability. Due to the fact Holliday spent 16 days on the active roster in April, Baltimore would need to keep him in the minors until Sept. 1 while limiting him to 130 or fewer total at-bats in order to preserve his rookie eligibility heading into 2025.
