    • Fires seven innings
Kirby allowed a run on five hits over seven innings in a no-decision Sunday. He struck out four during the win over the Royals.

Advice: The lone run to score on Kirby came via a sacrifice bunt in the fifth inning. After a shaky stretch in May, he's back to looking like his usual self recently; over his last three starts, Kirby has posted a 2.00 ERA and 21:1 K:BB. He was in line for the win after his seventh quality start of 2024 before the Royals tied up the game in the ninth inning. Kirby is now sporting a 3.81 ERA with a terrific 78:7 K:BB through 80.1 frames. His next start is lined up to be at home against the Rangers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:32 pm

    • Clay Holmes walks tightrope, but escapes with save
Clay Holmes walked the tightrope against the Dodgers in the ninth inning on Sunday, but managed to escape with a two-run lead intact to earn his 19th save of the season.

Advice: Holmes had no trouble getting the first two outs of the inning, but then he allowed singles to Gavin Lux and Enrique Hernandez to put the tying runs on base for Mookie Betts. He battled back though, getting Betts on a swinging third strike to close it out for the Yankees. The 31-year-old hurler has been outstanding this season, posting a 1.23 ERA and 29/8 K/BB ratio over 29 1/3 innings to go along with his 19 saves. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:56 pm
    • Goes seven strong to earn win
Eovaldi (3-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings against the Giants. He struck out five.

Advice: Eovaldi was staked to a 5-0 lead after two and cruised through seven, merely allowing single runs in each of the third and fourth innings as he rolled to his third victory. More importantly, he was also extended to near his full workload, completing seven innings on 90 pitches after tossing 37 and 71 in his previous two starts following a nearly four-week stint on the IL with a groin injury. It was the seventh start out of 10 for Eovaldi with at least five innings while allowing two or fewer runs. He'll carry a 2.68 ERA and 1.09 WHIP into his next start, likely to take place next weekend when the Rangers travel to Seattle for a weekend showdown against the Mariners. • George Kibry strong for seven against Royals
George Kirby pitched seven innings of one-run ball Sunday against the Royals.

Advice: Kirby was in line for the win when he left, but a two-run lead was blown in the bottom of the ninth. Kirby has allowed a total of four runs in his last three starts, lowering his ERA from 4.33 to 3.81. He went without walking a batter today, and his K/BB stands at 78/7 through 80 1/3 innings. • Alex Bregman (wrist) considered day-to-day
Astros’ manager Joe Espada told reporters after Sunday’s loss to the Angels that X-rays came back negative on the injured left wrist of Alex Bregman.

Advice: Bregman noted that while he got hit flush on his hand earlier in the week, the pitch that got him on Sunday was on his wrist instead. Fortunately, X-rays came back negative for any fractures and he’s considered day-to-day. Expect him to return to action early next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:57 pm

    • Initial tests come back clean
X-rays on Bregman's left wrist came back clean Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: Bregman was forced to exit Sunday's game against the Angels after being hit on the wrist by a sinker. It was the second time since Wednesday he's been hit in the hand area by a pitch, though he told reporters after the game that he was hit in a different spot the second time. Bregman also declared himself good to go, but it will still be worth confirming he is in Houston's lineup Monday against the Giants. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:43 pm

    • Ryan McMahon in 7-for-57 slump
Ryan McMahon went 0-for-4 on Sunday, leaving him 7-for-57 in his last 16 games.

Advice: McMahon’s OPS has dropped from .891 to .780 during the stretch, putting him much closer to his usual career numbers. McMahon’s exit velocity numbers are better than ever, and there’s reason to think he’s a truly improved player this season. Still, there was little chance he was going to keep batting .300, as he did for most of the first eight weeks. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:49 pm

    • Alex Bregman (hand) leaves game after hit by pitch
Alex Bregman was removed from Sunday’s game against the Angels after being hit by a pitch on his left hand.

Advice: Bregman was plunked by a 93.4 mph sinker on the same hand that he was hit on earlier in the week. He did stay in the game to run the bases for himself but was ultimately removed when the Astros took the field. He’ll presumably head for X-rays to see if there’s any structural damage. Stay tuned. • Exits after HBP on hand
Bregman exited Sunday's game against the Angels after being hit on the left hand by a 93.4 mph sinker in the sixth inning, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: He will presumably go for tests to determine the extent of the injury beyond the initial designation of "discomfort". Bregman missed a game last week when the same hand swelled up after a similar injury. Trey Cabbage entered the game in left field following Bregman's departure Sunday, while Mauricio Dubon moved to third base. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:11 pm
