    • Kirby Yates picks up fifth save versus Reds
Kirby Yates turned in a scoreless ninth against the Reds for his fifth save on Sunday.

Advice: Yates gave up a single and a walk, but he was able to strike out Jeimer Candelario and get a lineout to third from Luke Maile to end the game. He still hasn’t allowed a run in 12 innings this year. Rotoworld Today, 3:42 pm

    • Remains spotless, grabs fifth save
Yates earned a save after he pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out a batter in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Reds.

Advice: Yates was called upon to protect the team's 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth inning, working around a pair of baserunners to secure his fifth save of the season. The right-hander has now gone 5-for-5 in save opportunities this season while he has pitched 12 scoreless frames over his first 11 appearances in 2024. On top of the spotless ERA, Yates also owns a sparkling 0.50 WHIP with a 10.5 K/9, and he appears to be locked in as the Rangers' closer moving forward. Rotowire.com Today, 2:43 pm

    • Pitches through side tightness
Hicks said he experienced a bit of side tightness during his start against the Pirates on Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Hicks apparently felt the tightness following the sixth inning, though he still briefly came out for the seventh before being pulled after giving up a leadoff single. The right-hander is apparently fine, but it's still worth keeping an eye on his status heading into his next turn through the rotation, which lines up for next weekend in Philadelphia. • Season-high nine strikeouts
Hicks did not factor into the decision against the Pirates on Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out nine over six innings.

Advice: Hicks was in the zone Saturday, striking out the side in the first inning before going on to retire 10 of the first 12 batters he faced in the contest. He actually allowed the leadoff man to reach in four of the seven innings in which he appeared but wasn't charged with a run until the seventh, after being relieved by Luke Jackson. Hicks has now been hit with a no-decision in each of his last three starts despite holding his opponents to two or fewer runs in those outings. The right-hander also recorded a season-high nine strikeouts Saturday and did not walk a batter after issuing at least two free passes in each of his last three starts. Rotowire.com Today, 5:08 am

    • Jordan Hicks posts nine strikeouts vs. Pirates
Jordan Hicks recorded a career-high nine strikeouts over six innings of one-run ball on Saturday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: Hicks was simply magnificent in this one, continuing his early-season run of success in his Giants debut, coaxing 15 swinging strikes -- including 11 whiffs on his splitter alone -- and finishing with a near-elite 35 percent CSW. The hard-throwing 27-year-old has excelled in his conversion back to a traditional starting role for San Francisco, allowing two earned runs or fewer in six consecutive starts to open the year. There’s some regression looming in run-prevention department, but he’s been outstanding no matter how you slice the underlying data. He’ll carry a microscopic 1.59 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 27/10 K/BB ratio across 34 innings (six starts) into a road tilt on Friday against the Phillies. Rotoworld Today, 3:53 am

    • MRI comes back clean on Pete Fairbanks’ arm
An MRI on Pete Fairbanks’ right arm came back clean for any structural damage.

Advice: Fairbanks landed on the injured list earlier this week with an undisclosed nerve-related condition, so it’s at least an encouraging development that additional imaging didn’t turn up any structural damage. The 30-year-old righty has indicated that his latest issue is unrelated to previous flareups of Raynaud’s syndrome that he’s dealt with. Given the uncertainty surrounding his diagnosis, there isn’t a clear timetable for his return. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:14 am

    • Tests come back clean
Fairbanks (arm) has no structural damage to his arm, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Fairbanks had an MRI done Tuesday and then had unspecified additional testing done later in the week. All exams came back clean, which is good news and provides some optimism that he'll avoid a lengthy absence. However, both Fairbanks and the team have cautioned that he does not have a timeline to be activated from the injured list. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:29 am

    • Picks up fourth save
Yates struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Friday's 2-1 win over the Reds.

Advice: Yates struck out Jonathan India and Jeimer Candelario to begin the ninth, giving him 13 punchouts in 11 innings out of the bullpen. The 37-year-old righty still has yet to allow a run this season, and he'll likely continue receiving the bulk of save opportunities as long as that remains the case. • Kirby Yates throws perfect ninth for save
Kirby Yates struck out two in a perfect ninth Friday for a save against the Reds.

Advice: It was Yates’ first appearance since his save Sunday. He threw 14 pitches tonight, so he should be available again Saturday. David Robertson could also be a threat for a save then, but Yates is the clear favorite in Texas right now. Rotoworld Friday, 11:22 pm
