    • Brandon Pfaadt strikes out eight, allows one run
Brandon Pfaadt struck out eight while limiting the Angels to one run in six innings to get a win Thursday.

Advice: Pfaadt did have some control issues with three walks and 62-of-108 pitches landing for strikes, but he was able to work out of jams thanks to the punchouts. It’s a much improved effort from last weekend when he gave up nine hits and five runs against San Diego. Pfaadt has shown almost zero consistency in his MLB career — at least not in a positive way — but the stuff is here for him to be a successful fantasy option. His next chance for quality results comes next week against the Nats. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:14 pm
    • Returns to lineup Thursday
Ward (back) is serving as the Angels' designated hitter and batting third Thursday versus the Diamondbacks, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Ward was taken out of Tuesday's game due to back tightness and had to miss Wednesday's contest as well, but the issue has now seemingly subsided. Since June 1, the 30-year-old outfielder has gone just 4-for-28 with two RBI and two runs while striking out eight times in nine games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:27 pm

    • Not starting against southpaw
Raley isn't in the Mariners' lineup Thursday against the White Sox.

Advice: The left-handed bat of Raley will stay put in the dugout Thursday as left-handed starter Garrett Crochet toes the slab for Chicago. Victor Robles will fill the opening in left field while batting seventh. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:15 pm

    • Taylor Ward returns to lineup at DH on Thursday
Taylor Ward (back) is in the lineup for Thursday’s series finale against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Ward is back at designated hitter and batting third on Thursday evening following a one-game absence for precautionary reasons due to lower back tightness. The 30-year-old slugger, who has 12 homers and two steals in 65 games this season, has been the subject of trade rumors over the last few weeks and could wind up being moved in the coming weeks. • Allows one run in quality start
Mize did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over six innings against the Nationals. He struck out four.

Advice: Mize's only run allowed came on a sacrifice fly in the fourth, otherwise stymying the Nationals through six. It was the fifth quality start this season for Mize, and his first since May 15. Over his four starts since, he had compiled an 8.22 ERA and 2.48 ERA over 15.1 innings entering Thursday's contest. His next start is currently slated to take place next week when the Tigers travel to Atlanta for a three-game set. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:02 pm

    • Trea Turner (hamstring) running at 100 percent
Trea Turner (hamstring) progressed to running at 100 percent on Thursday.

Advice: Turner is trending towards making his long-awaited return to Philadelphia’s lineup at some point early next week. It sounds like the 30-year-old shortstop will skip a minor-league rehab assignment, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see him get in a couple at-bats over the weekend prior to returning. • X-rays negative on Nolan Arenado’s right hand
X-rays came back negative on Nolan Arenado’s right hand.

Advice: Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol told reporters Arenado is day-to-day with a bone bruise in his right hand. The 33-year-old third baseman, who finished 0-for-4 on Thursday afternoon, appears to have avoided serious injury after being hit by a pitch on the back of his right hand while striking out swinging during his final at-bat. He might require a couple games off to let the pain and swelling subside, but it doesn’t appear he’s facing an extended absence. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:45 pm

    • X-rays on hand negative
X-rays on Arenado's right hand game back negative after he was hit by a pitch during Thursday's win over Pittsburgh, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Arenado struck out swinging on a pitch that hit him in the hand during the eighth inning. He immediately headed back into the Cardinals' clubhouse to get checked out, but manager Oliver Marmol said Arenado simply suffered a bone bruise and is considered day-to-day. The 33-year-old is slashing .273/.340/.386 with a home run and five RBI since the beginning of June. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:28 pm

    • Reynaldo López shuts out Orioles for six in win
Reynaldo López shut out the Orioles for six innings, striking out eight, in the Braves’ 6-3 win Thursday.

Advice: López left with a four-run lead, which was fortunate since Pierce Johnson gave up a three-run homer in the seventh. It’s just the fourth victory for López, even though he’s allowed three runs or fewer in all 12 of his starts. If he had done this for the 2023 Braves, he’d probably have at least twice as many wins right now. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:01 pm
