Ryan (5-5) earned the win over Oakland on Thursday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out five batters over seven innings.

Advice: Ryan surrendered a two-run homer to Tyler Soderstrom in the second inning, but those were the only runs the A's managed against the righty hurler. Ryan finished with a stat line very similar to his previous outing, when he gave up two runs on three hits over seven frames versus Pittsburgh, though that performance came in a losing effort. The 28-year-old pitcher has four quality starts over his past five appearances and has posted a 2.73 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 32:7 K:BB across 33 frames during that span. • Homers, swipes bag in loss
Chisholm went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Mets.

Advice: Chisholm gave the Marlins a 2-0 lead with his seventh inning solo shot, but the Mets ultimately rallied for the victory on a J.D. Martinez walk-off blast. The long ball was Chisholm's 10th of the season, and he notched his 13th stolen base in the contest as well. The talented center fielder is one of nine major-leaguers to reach double-digit homers and steals so far this season. Rotowire.com Today, 12:36 am

    • Ryan picks up fifth win against A’s Thursday
Joe Ryan allowed two runs in seven innings and got the win in the Twins’ 6-2 victory over the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Ryan gave up three hits, walked one and struck out five. The win was his fifth of the year. Both of the runs for Oakland came on a Tyler Soderstrom two-run home run in the second inning. Ryan hung a splitter to Soderstrom, but it was basically the only mistake he made on the night. It was Ryan’s 10th quality start of the season. His ERA is now 3.24 on the year. The 28-year-old right-hander is set to face the Rays at home next week.

    • Idle Thursday
Smith isn't in the Dodgers' lineup Thursday versus the Rangers.

Advice: Smith will get some scheduled rest after starting in five consecutive games. In that span, the catcher went 5-for-19 with a homer in series versus the Yankees and Rangers. With the 29-year-old on the bench Thursday, Austin Barnes will start behind the dish and bat ninth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:14 pm

    • Pitching final sim game
Kershaw (shoulder) will throw a three-inning simulated game Thursday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Kershaw most recently tossed a two-inning simulated game with the Dodgers' Single-A affiliate in Rancho Cucamonga on June 7, with reports suggesting that his fastball touched 90 miles per hour in the outing. He'll increase his workload in Thursday's simulated game, which will be his last before he begins what will likely be a multi-start minor-league rehab assignment, according to Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register. • Taking seat Thursday
Stanton is out of the lineup for Thursday's game in Kansas City.

Advice: Stanton slugged home runs in the second and third games of the series but has bookended the power output with days off in the first and now the fourth games. Aaron Judge will get a day out of the outfield and serve as the Yankees' designated hitter Thursday while Stanton rests. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:32 am
    • Kerry Carpenter says back is improving with rest
Kerry Carpenter, who has been resting for two weeks after being diagnosed with a lumbar spine fracture, said his back is starting to feel better.

Advice: The Tigers haven’t provided any timetable for Carpenter’s return, but Carpenter said he was told he’d need three and a half to four weeks of total rest before resuming baseball activities. He’s a bit more than halfway there now. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:54 am
