• Retreating to bench Thursday
Urias is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: Urias had started in each of the past four games, but two came while Jorge Mateo was out with a concussion and one came while Jordan Westburg received a rest day. Mateo and Westburg are both in the lineup Thursday and are slated to serve as the Orioles' primary starters at second base and third base, respectively, so Urias' opportunities could become more limited moving forward. • Goes yard twice in win
Solano went 2-for-4 with two home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the A's.

Advice: All the Padres' offense came from long balls, with Solano supplying a solo shot off Hogan Harris in the second inning and a two-run homer off Lucas Erceg in the eighth. Solano's only other home run this season came May 27, but during that 16-game stretch he's slashing .315/.367/.519 with seven runs and nine RBI while filling in as the starting third baseman for a banged-up Manny Machado. • Twins option slumping Kirilloff to Triple-A
Twins optioned 1B Alex Kirilloff to Triple-A St. Paul.

Advice: Kirilloff got off to a strong start in April, but he faded quickly and was hitting .135/.207/.284 in his last 30 games. Edouard Julien has remained ice cold in Triple-A, so he’s unlikely to be the countermove here. That probably leaves Matt Wallner or Austin Martin. Wallner has turned things around lately, but Martin has the better Triple-A numbers and has more to offer defensively. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:37 am

  • Notches first steal of season
Donovan went 2-for-3 with a walk, one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Pirates.

Advice: Donovan extended his hitting streak to seven games. He's gone 9-for-27 (.333) in that span, but just one of those hits has gone for extra bases. The 27-year-old's steal Wednesday was his first of the season, and he's not much of a speed threat after logging just five thefts in 95 games a year ago. Donovan is up to a .247/.322/.368 slash line with four home runs, 28 RBI, 30 runs scored, 15 doubles and one triple over 270 plate appearances this season. He spent much of the first two months of the season batting leadoff versus right-handed pitchers, but Masyn Winn is now atop the order on a near-everyday basis, having hit there in all but two of 11 games in June. Donovan has hit no higher than sixth over the last week. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:23 pm

  • Posts three-hit effort in win
Schanuel went 3-for-5 with a double and one run scored in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Schanuel went just 5-for-52 (.096) over 15 games since his last multi-hit effort. The first baseman is up to a .216/.282/.338 slash line with seven home runs, 22 RBI, 20 runs scored, five doubles and no stolen bases over 59 contests. His batting average hasn't been higher than .250 all year, but his iffy contact and lack of speed have yet to cost him the opportunity to regularly bat leadoff. However, Michael Stefanic got a look atop the order in the previous two games before sitting out Wednesday. While Schanuel's spot in the lineup isn't in question, he could drop the down order soon if he goes back to struggling at the plate. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:28 pm
  • Dispatched to Triple-A
The Twins optioned Kirilloff to Triple-A St. Paul after Wednesday's 17-9 win over the Rockies, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Kirilloff will head to Triple-A in order to get back on track after going 2-for-21 with nine strikeouts since the beginning of June, bringing his season slash line down to .201/.270/.384 through 178 plate appearances. The Twins have not yet announced a corresponding move for Kirilloff's demotion, but his absence will likely result in more time in left field for Trevor Larnach and more time at first base for Carlos Santana. • Donovan Solano homers twice in Padres’ victory
Donovan Solano went 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBI on Wednesday in the Padres’ victory over the Athletics.

Advice: Solano homered off Oakland starter Hogan Harris and reliever Lucas Erceg to turn in one of the most unlikely multi-homer performances of the entire 2024 campaign. It was 36-year-old veteran journeyman’s first two-homer effort since August 4, 2019. Rotoworld Wednesday, 5:26 pm

  • Moving into reserve role
Newman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Advice: He'll sit for the second day in a row and looks set to see a steep reduction in playing time moving forward after the Diamondbacks brought back top shortstop Geraldo Perdomo from the injured list Tuesday. Newman joined the Diamondbacks in the second week of the season following Perdomo's placement on the IL and hit .266 with two home runs and two stolen bases over 49 games. • Out against lefty
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Carpenter will hit the bench Wednesday while the Pirates bring southpaw Bailey Falter to the hill. With Carpenter taking a seat, Alec Burleson will get a day out of the outfield and serve as the Cardinals' designated hitter while Dylan Carlson steps in as St. Louis' starting right fielder.
