• Slade Cecconi gives up six runs in bulk role
After taking over for opener Joe Mantiply, Slade Cecconi gave up six runs in five innings Monday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Mantiply did his part in the first and Cecconi kept it going with a scoreless second, but he went on to five up three homers in the third inning. It was impressive how Cecconi rebounded with three scoreless innings afterwards, but the damage was done. Cecconi is now 1-4 with a 6.12 ERA, and his rotation spot appears to be in jeopardy. • Gets hit hard Monday
Wentz allowed five runs on five hits out of the bullpen while not retiring a single batter in Monday's 8-3 loss to the Royals.

Advice: Wentz had his first true disaster outing of the season, which included allowing his first home run of the year to Salvador Perez. The lefty came into the game with a stellar 1.08 ERA but departed with that figure up to 3.78. One bad appearance doesn't undo nearly two months of solid play, though after Wentz struggled mightily in 2023, it was fair to expect some regression after his great start to the season. • Fans eight in no-decision
Weathers did not factor into the decision Monday against Milwaukee, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks over seven innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: Weathers generated 14 whiffs en route to his eight strikeouts, reaching that mark for the first time since punching out 10 on April 16 against San Francisco. The Miami lefty has thrown four consecutive quality starts, posting a 2.67 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB over 27 innings during that time. Weathers is currently slated to make his next start against Arizona on the road this weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 7:15 pm

  • Ryan Weathers strikes out eight in no-decision
Ryan Weathers struck out eight and was charged with two runs (one earned) over seven innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Brewers.

Advice: Weathers generated 14 swinging strikes, including seven on his changeup alone, and finished with a robust 34 percent CSW. The 24-year-old lefty has pitched extremely well this season, allowing three earned runs or fewer in nine of his 10 starts. His eight punchouts were the most since a 10-strikeout performance back on April 16. He’ll bring a solid 3.49 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 46/19 K/BB ratio across 56 2/3 innings (10 starts) into a road tilt on Sunday against the Diamondbacks. Rotoworld Today, 7:02 pm

  • Vasquez posts quality start Monday
Randy Vasquez allowed three runs in six innings and took the loss against the Braves on Monday.

Advice: Vasquez, who was acquired from the Yankees in the Juan Soto trade, really battled in this start. Despite allowing 10 hits and having an elevated pitch count in the early innings, he still managed to put up a quality start in a tough matchup against Atlanta on the road. This was also the longest start of Vasquez’ career. He lowered his ERA to 5.82 in five starts this year, though his xFIP is much lower at 4.45. It’s something for Vasquez to potentially build on even though he’s not usable in fantasy at the moment. The 25-year-old right-hander is scheduled to face the Yankees at home on Saturday.

  • Demoted to Triple-A
Knack was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Knack filled in admirably Sunday in a spot start against the Reds, surrendering one run on three hits and one walk while fanning five over 4.2 innings. He'll be moved back to the minors to make room for Yohan Ramirez, who was acquired in a trade from the Mets earlier in the day. Rotowire.com Today, 5:42 pm

  • Dodgers send Landon Knack to Triple-A
Dodgers optioned RHP Landon Knack to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: The move makes room for the newly acquired Yohan Ramírez on the roster. Knack had a fine 2.61 ERA in four starts for the Dodgers, but he wasn’t going to be needed this week with the team having Thursday off. He might rejoin the rotation at the beginning of next month, but the Dodgers could also have Bobby Miller close to returning by then. Rotoworld Today, 4:52 pm

  • Begins throwing off mound
May (elbow) has started throwing off a mound at the Dodgers' team facility in Arizona, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Advice: May has been slowly working his way back from the surgery underwent on his right flexor tendon and UCL in July. The right-hander will progressively increase his workload on the mound before he'll likely throw live batting practice and ultimately go on an extended minor-league rehab assignment. The organization will likely be especially cautious in their approach to May's recovery, and his return to the majors is currently projected to come around the All-Star break. • Had internal brace procedure
Sheehan revealed Monday that last week's right elbow surgery was an internal brace procedure, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The internal brace procedure typically allows for a shorter rehab than a traditional Tommy John surgery, although Sheehan noted Monday that he's been told to expect the rehab to last 13 months. That puts the young right-hander out until around the All-Star break next year. Rotowire.com Today, 3:51 pm
