• Collects save
Jax struck out two and allowed one hit in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Athletics.

Advice: The Twins haven't had much need for their bullpen this weekend, as Bailey Ober tossed a complete game Saturday and Pablo Lopez went eight innings Sunday. Jax hadn't pitched since Thursday, so he was a little fresher than Jhoan Duran, who last pitched Friday, which likely explains manager Rocco Baldelli's decision. Jax has done well in a high-leverage role this year, posting a 2.10 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 46:8 K:BB over 34.1 innings. He's added seven saves and 12 holds, though he's likely to remain second in the hierarchy for closing duties. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:03 pm
  • Clears waivers
The Twins outrighted Jackson to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday.

Advice: Jackson has now been moved off the Twins' 40-man roster on two occasions this season, but unless he elects free agency, he'll stick around in the organization as relief depth at Triple-A. Over 20 appearances out of the Minnesota bullpen this season, Jackson has posted a 7.52 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 26.1 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:51 pm
  • Shifts rehab to Triple-A
Otto has given up three earned runs on one hit and four walks while striking out four across three innings between his two appearances since shifting his rehab assignment to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.

Advice: Otto has 33 big-league starts on his resume, but given that he hasn't covered more than two innings in any of his five rehab appearances between Triple-A and the rookie-level Arizona Complex League thus far, the Padres look to be preparing him for a relief role upon his return from the 15-day injured list. The right-hander has been on the shelf all season with a right teres major strain. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:12 pm

  • Drawing another start
Chirinos is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Royals in Kansas City.

Advice: He'll make another turn through the Miami rotation after he acquitted himself well in his Marlins debut this past Wednesday against the Cardinals, striking out six while allowing two runs on eight hits and no walks over five innings in a no-decision. With the Miami pitching staff having been decimated by injuries of late, Chirinos should have the opportunity to stick in the rotation beyond Tuesday if he continues to perform reasonably well. • Griffin Jax closes out Athletics on Sunday
Griffin Jax registered his seventh save of the season on Sunday afternoon, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a three-run lead against the Athletics.

Advice: It’s the second straight week that Jax has secured a save on Sunday. Jhoan Duran threw 19 pitches in a blown save against the A’s on Friday night, but neither of the two hurlers worked during Saturday’s game, so it was a bit surprising to see Jax and not Duran to close this one out. Other than posting elite ratios and nabbing the occasional save though, it’s hard to count on Jax for much more from a fantasy perspective while Duran is still the primary option in the ninth inning. • Makes return at Triple-A
Wantz (forearm) has given up nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits and seven walks while striking out 10 over six innings in his three appearances (two starts) since being activated from Triple-A Salt Lake's 7-day injured list June 12.

Advice: Wantz missed just under two months of action due to a right forearm strain. Though he's ostensibly healthy again, Wantz has struggled mightily with his control since coming off the IL. He doesn't look to be a viable option to join the Angels during the upcoming week, even though the big club has two open spots in its rotation at the moment. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:58 pm

  • Back in big leagues
Little was called up from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Little will return to the major-league bullpen just one day after being sent to Iowa, replacing Mark Leiter (forearm) on the 26-man roster. Little has compiled a 2.31 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 12 strikeouts over 11.2 innings in 13 appearances with the Cubs since May 15. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:08 pm
  • Placed on 15-day IL
Leiter was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain Sunday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Leiter last appeared in a game Wednesday versus the Giants, surrendering three runs on a hit and two walks over two-thirds of an inning. He'll now likely be sidelined longer than the minimum stay on the injured list considering it's an injury to his throwing arm. In the meantime, Luke Little was called up from Triple-A Iowa to replace Leiter in the major-league bullpen Sunday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:05 pm
  • Resumes working out of bullpen
Fleming retired the lone batter he faced in relief Friday in the Pirates' 10-3 loss to the Rays.

Advice: Fleming was back in the bullpen for the beginning of the Pirates' three-game set with Tampa Bay after he made a four-inning spot start in Colorado in his previous outing this past Sunday. The veteran southpaw has just one save and one hold among his 17 relief appearances on the season and will likely be relegated to lower-leverage spots even after the Pirates placed closer David Bednar (oblique) on the injured list Sunday.
