    • Season-high 10 Ks in win
Abbott (6-6) picked up the win Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk over 5.2 innings in a 5-2 victory over the Red Sox. He struck out 10.

Advice: The 10 Ks were a season high for Abbott and marked the third time in 36 career big-league starts he's reached double digits. The 25-year-old lefty hasn't had consistent swing-and-miss stuff this year -- he hasn't fanned more than six batters in an outing since May 4 -- and continues to have trouble keeping the ball in the park, as both runs against him Friday came on solo shots, but he's been making it all work so far in 2024. Abbott will take a 3.40 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 70:26 K:BB through 84.2 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Pirates. Rotowire.com Saturday, 6:52 am
    • Andrew Abbott strikes out season-high 10 in win
Andrew Abbott fanned 10 while allowing two runs in 5 2/3 innings Friday in a win over the Red Sox.

Advice: The 10 strikeouts topped his previous season high by two. Abbott yielded homers to Connor Wong and Jarren Duran, but no further damage was done. There still isn’t much at all to like about Abbott’s peripherals, but he has reduced his walk rate, and this is the right year to be a big flyball pitcher. He’s currently 6-6 with a 3.40 ERA, even though he’s given up 15 homers in 84 2/3 innings. Rotoworld Friday, 10:41 pm
    • Bounces back with quality start
Estes allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out one over six innings in a no-decision versus the Twins on Friday.

Advice: Estes was tagged for six runs over 2.2 innings in his previous start at Minnesota, but he responded with his second quality start in eight outings this season. The downside was his single strikeout, which was a season low for the right-hander. He's now at a 5.53 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 31:10 K:BB over 40.2 innings. Estes is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Angels. Rotowire.com Friday, 10:13 pm

    • Joey Estes pitches well in no-decision vs. Twins
Joey Estes gave up just two runs in six innings in a no-decision Friday against the Twins.

Advice: Estes gave up just five hits, with one of those being a solo homer to Royce Lewis. Everyone gives up homers to Lewis, so no same there. It was far from a dominant effort with just one strikeout, but effective nonetheless. His 5.53 ERA is much more indicative of his fantasy relevance in 2024 than this outing, if we’re speaking our truth. Rotoworld Friday, 9:09 pm

    • Padres option Adam Mazur to Triple-A El Paso
Padres optioned RHP Adam Mazur to Triple-A EL Paso.

Advice: With Yu Darvish expected to return from the injured list next week, Mazur’s time in the rotation was coming to an end, so they’ll option him out now in order to get a fresh arm in their bullpen for the weekend. The 23-year-old hurler went 0-2 with a 7.27 ERA, 1.96 WHIP and a cringe-inducing 11/16 K/BB ratio over 17 1/3 innings in his first four big-league starts. Rotoworld Friday, 3:32 pm

    • Headed back to minors
The Padres optioned Mazur to Triple-A El Paso following Thursday's game against the Brewers.

Advice: The move corresponds with southpaw Tom Cosgrove being recalled from Triple-A El Paso. Mazur was called up to the Padres' rotation June 4 due to Yu Darvish (groin) landing on the injured list. Over his four major-league starts, Mazur has an 0-2 record with a 7.27 ERA and 1.96 WHIP, and he has failed to make it through five innings over his last three starts. The 23-year-old right-hander hasn't had it much better in Triple-A this year, posting a 7.11 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 19 innings. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:43 pm

    • Allows three runs in no-decision
Mazur did not factor into the decision in a win over the Brewers on Thursday, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Mazur allowed one run in the first inning after surrendering a leadoff double to Brice Turang to open the contest, but the right-hander was able to keep the Brewers' offense at bay over the next three frames as San Diego took a 4-1 lead. The 23-year-old's luck would run out in the fifth, however, when Willy Adames chased him from the game with a two-run shot. Mazur has now failed to make it through five innings in each of his last three starts, allowing 13 runs over that stretch while posting a putrid 9:12 K:BB. He's likely to be pushed out of the rotation as soon as Yu Darvish (groin) returns. Rotowire.com Friday, 7:05 am

    • Adam Mazur surrenders three runs to Brewers
Adam Mazur was lifted after allowing three runs in 4 2/3 innings Thursday against the Brewers.

Advice: Mazur struck out three and walked three. The Padres are about to get Yu Darvish back, so Mazur seems likely to be sent down, perhaps prior to Friday’s game. He still might be interesting later this year. Rotoworld Thursday, 11:17 pm

    • Earns eighth win
Allen (8-3) earned the win Thursday against the Mariners, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks across six innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Allen did not start off well, allowing a leadoff single to J.P. Crawford followed by a homer to Dylan Moore, but he allowed just one more run the rest of the way to earn his eighth win and complete his fifth quality start of the season. Allen, who also hit a batter on the day, continues to struggle with missing bats, having struck out just eight batters over the last three starts spanning 17 innings after having struck out 51 across 58.2 innings during his first 12 outings. Despite the dearth of strikeouts during this most recent stretch, Allen's ERA stands at 3.17 over the last three games as opposed to 5.83 during the 12 games prior. Things will not get easier for his next start as he's currently scheduled to take on the Orioles in Baltimore. Rotowire.com Thursday, 4:46 pm
