      King allowed two hits and three walks while striking out a season-high 11 over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Friday.

      Advice: King put four runners on base but also racked up eight strikeouts over his first three innings. He ended up missing out on the win after Yuki Matsui allowed the game-tying run in the eighth inning. King was unsteady late in April, but he's opened May with 13 scoreless innings. The right-hander has a 3.67 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 54:24 K:BB through 49 innings over nine appearances (eight starts) this season.       Holmes earned the save in Friday's 2-0 win over the Rays, working around a hit and two walks while striking out three in a scoreless ninth inning.

      Advice: The Rays loaded the bases against Holmes in the ninth before the right-hander struck out Jonny DeLuca for the final out. Holmes has yet to allow an earned run this year, pitching to a 1.04 WHIP with 21:3 K:BB over 17.1 innings. He's up to 12 saves, tied with Kyle Finnegan and Robert Suarez for the league lead.     • Michael King allows two hits, whiffs 11 vs. LAD
      Michael King struck out 11 over seven scoreless innings against the Dodgers on Friday.

      Advice: Sensational. King was excellent against the Diamondbacks on Saturday, but this was a different level for the 28-year-old. He did walk three, but he threw 74-of-106 pitches for strikes and was able to get the punchout if there was even a sniff of trouble. The right-hander now has a 3.67 ERA and 54/24 K/BB, and he’s shown why the Padres were adamant about acquiring his services in the Juan Soto trade. Sadly, King doesn’t get a win because his bullpen blew a 1-0 lead after he left. He should keep the good run going against the Rockies at home next week. Rotoworld Friday, 8:58 pm

    • Clay Holmes walks tightrope, escapes with save
      Clay Holmes walked the tightrope in the ninth inning on Friday night, but escaped with his 12th save of the season after stranding the bases loaded with a two-run lead.

      Advice: Holmes — who has yet to allow an earned run through 17 1/3 innings to begin the season — really had to work in this one. He issued a leadoff walk to Yandy Díaz and a one-out walk to Josh Lowe — striking out Randy Arozarena and Isaac Paredes in-between. He then allowed a two-out single to Austin Shenton that loaded the bases before striking out Jonny DeLuca after a six-pitch battle to end it.       Green (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Friday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

      Blanco (4-0) earned the win over the Yankees on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings.

      Advice: Blanco was a bit shaky with his control, as he threw just 62 of 107 pitches for strikes and tied a season high with four free passes. However, he allowed just one extra-base hit -- an Anthony Volpe two-run homer that accounted for both runs against him. Blanco thus improved his perfect record to 4-0 on the season, and he's allowed three or fewer runs in all seven of his starts. He's also recorded five quality starts on the campaign, falling one out shy in each of his two outings during which he hasn't met that mark.       Ronel Blanco allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings on Thursday in a win over the Yankees.

      Advice: Blanco generated 13 swinging strikes, and finished with five strikeouts, but also battled control issues throughout this one, handing out four free passes as well. He managed to limit New York’s formidable lineup to just a two-run homer by Anthony Volpe into the middle innings, which was enough to hang on for his fourth win of the year. He’ll carry a sparkling 2.23 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 41/20 K/BB ratio across 44 1/3 innings (seven starts) into an extremely favorable matchup on Tuesday against the Athletics.       Suarez earned the save Wednesday against the Cubs, striking out one across a perfect inning.

      Advice: Suarez advanced to 12-for-12 on save chances this season, putting him in lockstep with Kyle Finnegan for the most saves in baseball. The former has allowed just seven hits on the season, and the lone run charged against him came via a home run back on March 28. Suarez hasn't allowed a hit in 5.2 innings.       Robert Suarez fired a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday against the Cubs to notch his 12th save of the season.

      Advice: Suarez got the call to guard a three-run lead in the final frame and needed just 11 pitches (seven strikes) to spin a flawless frame. The hard-throwing 33-year-old stopper has converted all 12 of his save opportunities this season to accompany a microscopic 0.55 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 15/4 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings (15 appearances).
