    • Framber Valdez gets quality start, win vs. TOR
Framber Valdez allowed three runs over six innings in a win over the Blue Jays on Thursday.

Advice: Valdez gave up nine hits and walked two while striking out four. The overall line isn’t great, but it’s worth pointing out that he gave up all three runs in the first inning before settling down over the final five. He’ll get a chance to make one more start before the All-Star break against the Marlins on Wednesday. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago
    • Smacks 14th homer
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Reynolds took Andre Pallante deep on the first pitch of the fourth, providing the only run for the Pirates until the 10th inning. Reynolds has found his power stroke of late, with six of his 14 home runs this season coming over his last 18 games. He's carried a hot bat since the beginning of June, slashing .319/.372/.588 with seven homers and 18 RBI over his last 29 contests. Rotowire.com 47 minutes ago

    • Bryan Reynolds swats solo homer in extra-inning loss
Bryan Reynolds homered in an extra-inning loss to the Cardinals on Thursday.

Advice: Reynolds swatted a solo homer off Andre Pallante to tie the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning. The outfielder has homered 14 times while driving in 48 runs thus far in 2023. It was the only hit of the game for Reynolds, but his .273/.338/.466 slash is solid, and he was much better than that in June with a .330/.388/.504 slash in that month. • Bryce Harper (hamstring) getting closer to return
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said both Bryce Harper (hamstring) and J.T. Realmuto (knee) are running at 75% intensity.

Advice: The Phillies will be home for six games next week and then have the All-Star break, so there’s no reason to rush either Harper or Realmuto, but Thomson said that the Phillies won’t hold either of them back if they’re ready to go before the break. Given the nature of Realmuto’s injury and his age, it’s more likely Harper will return before the break than Realmuto. However, the Phillies have a solid lead in the NL East, so the team could decide to be cautious with both and hold them out for next week. One would assume that if the Phillies don’t bring either Harper or Realmuto back for the early week series against the Dodgers, they will certainly hold them out for the weekend series against the Athletics. • Kyle Tucker out through All-Star Break
According to the Houston Chronicle, Kyle Tucker (shin) and Justin Verlander (neck) will both be out through the All-Star break.

Advice: Tucker’s long absence with a shin bruise will continue. It’s fair to wonder if there’s something more going on here, but Tucker will remain out for at least another two weeks through the All-Star game on July 16th. Both Astros fans and fantasy managers hope that will be enough time to get Tucker back on the field on July 19th. Rotoworld Today, 11:10 am

    • Not starting Thursday
Mountcastle isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Thursday's game versus Seattle.

Advice: Mountcastle went 1-for-4 with an RBI during his first game back from an illness Wednesday, and he'll now get another day to rest against Bryce Miller and the Mariners. Ryan O'Hearn will move to first base as a result, allowing Heston Kjerstad to serve as the DH. Rotowire.com Today, 10:15 am
    • Doing drills at 70-to-75 percent
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that Harper (hamstring) is currently able to go through drills at 70-to-75 percent intensity, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Advice: Harper is eligible for activation July 9 as he works his way back from a strained left hamstring. While the Phillies won't hesitate to activate Harper next week if he's ready, they do have the All-Star break looming the following week if they decide to give the first baseman a little more time. • Out through All-Star break
Astros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that Tucker (lower leg) won't return from the injured list before the All-Star break, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The 27-year-old saw his recovery progress from the lower leg bruise pick up this week, but he won't be back before the midseason festivities. Tucker has been on the injured list nearly a month and could require a rehab assignment before being cleared for major-league action. Rotowire.com Today, 9:15 am

    • Twirls seven shutout innings
Rea (8-2) earned a win over the Rockies on Wednesday, tossing seven shutout frames while striking out four and allowing six hits.

Advice: Rea had his best start of the season in this one. It was just the second time this season he's gotten to seven innings and just the third time he's managed to not issue a walk. He generated 10 outs via grounders, which played a big part in his success Wednesday. Rea has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in seven of his last eight starts and has maintained great value in a Brewers rotation that has been depleted by injuries. The 33-year-old now owns a 3.34 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 66:28 K:BB in 94.1 innings. He lines up to face Pittsburgh at home next week. Rotowire.com Today, 8:52 am
