    • Framber Valdez to go 70-75 pitches on Sunday
Astros’ manager Joe Espada told reporters on Saturday that Framber Valdez is expected to throw around 70-75 pitches in Sunday’s start against the Rockies.

Advice: It’s no surprise that Valdez would be a bit limited in his first start back from the injured list, so fantasy managers need to be aware that he may not stick around long enough to earn a victory. That — and the high run-scoring environment in Mexico City — may mean it’s best to leave Valdez on the bench before inserting him back into lineups for next week. Rotoworld Today, 1:57 pm
    • Taken off IL
The Astros removed Valdez (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Saturday, per the MLB transaction log.

Advice: Valdez is set to start in Sunday's game against the Rockies as part of a two-game series in Mexico City. The 30-year-old southpaw landed on the Astros' 15-day IL on April 9 due to left elbow inflammation. Valdez threw a 40-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, and he will likely be on a pitch count over his first few outings. Rotowire.com Today, 11:23 am
    • Astros activate Framber Valdez for Sunday return
Astros activated LHP Framber Valdez from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: It’s merely a procedural move as Valdez was set to rejoin Houston’s starting rotation to take the ball during Sunday’s series finale in Mexico City against the Rockies. The combination of some likely have some workload restrictions and Mexico City’s extremely hitter-friendly offensive environment make him a risky proposition for fantasy managers right out of the gate. • Hit hard in Friday's loss
Butto (0-1) took the loss Friday as the Mets fell, 4-2, to the Cardinals, giving up four runs on four hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Homers by Alec Burleson in the second inning and Willson Contreras in the third accounted for all the damage off Butto, and were the first long balls he's served up this season. The right-hander tossed 94 pitches (56 strikes) before exiting, and while his 2.86 ERA and 1.09 WHIP through 22 innings look sharp, he's walking a tightrope with his control and command -- Butto has issued at least three walks in three of his four starts, and he's hit a batter with a pitch in three straight. The 26-year-old will look for his first win of 2024 when he takes the mound next week at home against the Cubs. Rotowire.com Today, 6:22 am

    • Coughs up four homers
Musgrove (3-3) allowed seven runs on eight hits and two walks over 3.2 innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Phillies.

Advice: Musgrove was cursed by the long ball Friday. He gave up a leadoff shot to Kyle Schwarber to begin the game before Philadelphia crushed three more homers during a four-run third inning. Musgrove is still searching for some consistency and his ERA has shot up to 6.94 through seven starts (35 innings). While he's struck out more than five batters just one time in 2024, he set a new season best by forcing 15 whiffs Friday, including seven with the slider. Musgrove will carry a lackluster 27:13 K:BB into his next outing, which is projected to come at home against the Reds. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:30 pm
    • Joe Musgrove shelled over 3 2/3 in loss to PHI
Joe Musgrove gave up seven runs in 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Phillies on Friday.

Advice: Giving up eight hits while not getting out of the fourth inning. Giving up four homers in that time is worse. Musgrove simply didn’t have it Friday night against the loaded Philadelphia lineup, and a starter who had been just so-so coming into the outing was much worse than that. Musgrove will work on lowering his 6.94 ERA against the Reds on Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:28 pm
    • José Buttó gives up two homers in loss to Cards
José Buttó took his first loss after giving up four runs in 5 2/3 innings Friday against the Cardinals.

Advice: Buttó allowed just four hits, but two of them were long homers that accounted for all of the runs. The three-run homer from Alec Burleson in the second scored baserunners who had reached on a HBP and a walk. Control was the concern with Butto going in. There’s still a lot to like here, but that he’s walked 12 and hit three batters in 22 innings is rather discouraging. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:45 pm

    • Cody Bradford (rib) diagnosed with stress fracture
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters on Friday that Cody Bradford has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his rib.

Advice: That explains why the 26-year-old southpaw hasn’t progressed as quickly as the Rangers had hoped in his recovery from a sore lower back. He’s expected to miss at least a month’s worth of action. By the time he’s ready to return, it seems unlikely that there will be a spot for him in the Rangers’ rotation if everyone else is able to stay healthy. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:23 pm

    • Managing rib stress fracture
Bradford (back) was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his rib Friday and is expected to be sidelined for about a month, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: The left-hander wasn't progressing as expected in his recovery after landing on the shelf April 14 with lower-back soreness, and a rib stress fracture is the apparent culprit. Bradford will now be sidelined through at least late May, and a more specific timeline should come into focus as he ramps up his rehab work. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:16 pm
