    • Returns from injured list
The Tigers reinstated Faedo (hip) from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: Faedo made three rehab appearances at Triple-A Toledo, during which he gave up one run over three innings while striking out four batters and walking four. He owns a 3.38 ERA and 1.18 WHIP through 34.2 frames in the majors, and he'll slide back into a middle relief role now that he's been cleared to rejoin the Tigers' bullpen. Keider Montero was optioned to Toledo in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:00 pm

    • Tigers activate Alex Faedo for Thursday return
Tigers activated RHP Alex Faedo from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Faedo returns to Detroit’s pitching mix, most likely in a long relief role, following a three-week absence due to right hip inflammation. The 28-year-old former top prospect has excelled in a bullpen role this season with a strong 3.38 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 29/13 K/BB ratio across 34 2/3 innings (21 appearances). • Guardians option Xzavion Curry to Triple-A
Guardians optioned RHP Xzavion Curry to Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: Curry heads back to the minors after allowing two runs over three innings on Wednesday in mop-up duty against the Orioles. The 25-year-old righty holds a lackluster 5.74 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 9/3 K/BB ratio across 15 2/3 innings (four appearances, three starts) this season in the big leagues. • Tigers option Keider Moreno back to Triple-A
Tigers optioned RHP Keider Moreno to Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: Moreno heads back to the minors after surrendering five runs over 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a spot start against the Phillies. The 23-year-old righty has struggled at the highest level, but he’s flashed an ability to miss bats with his slider in the big leagues. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:56 pm
    • Optioned to Triple-A
The Guardians optioned Curry to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

Advice: Curry took the loss out of the bullpen for the Guardians on Wednesday versus the Orioles and finds himself back in the minors a day later. He'll be replaced by a fresh bullpen arm in Darren McCaughan. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:49 pm

    • Throws bullpen session
Sanchez (shoulder) threw an 18-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: He could throw off the mound again this weekend. While it appears he's inching in the right direction, Sanchez won't be eligible for activation until early August after being transferred to the 60-day injured list earlier this week. He's coming back from right shoulder inflammation. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:31 pm

    • Rehab paused due to stiff neck
Clevinger's (elbow) next rehab start has been pushed back to next week due to neck stiffness, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports.

Advice: Clevinger last pitched with Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday, when he allowed five runs and threw 71 pitches over 4.2 innings. The White Sox are hopeful that he will need just one more rehab start before rejoining their rotation, although that will be dependent on how he looks and feels. Clevinger is targeting 70-to-80 pitches in next week's rehab start. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:22 pm

    • Guardians ink Matthew Boyd to deal
According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Guardians have signed LHP Matthew Boyd to a major league deal, pending a physical.

Advice: The Boyd Boys are back in business. The left-hander held a showcase with 17 teams on June 8th when he was a little over 11 months removed from Tommy John surgery. He was reportedly sitting 92-93 with his fastball, which was enough to win over the Guardians. The 33-year-old was 5-5 with a 5.45 ERA in 15 starts for the Tigers last season before undergoing surgery, and will almost certainly require a handful of rehab starts before he threatens to take the job of anybody in the Guardians’ rotation. • Likely to join rotation
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said after Wednesday's game that Mercado would likely join the rotation if Spencer Turnbull (lat) needed to miss time, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Advice: Turnbull has since been placed on the 15-day injured list, so it would appear Mercado is set to join the Phillies' rotation next week. Mercado made one one-inning relief appearance earlier this week in his major-league debut, but he's been used mostly as a starter this season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, collecting a 1.71 ERA and 44:23 K:BB over 47.1 frames covering 10 starts and four relief outings. The 25-year-old's first big-league start is tentatively lined up to come Tuesday in Chicago against the Cubs. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:17 pm
