      Advice: He will presumably be added to the roster, although it's unclear what the corresponding transaction will be. Horwitz has been on fire of late at Triple-A Buffalo, going 16-for-36 with a pair of home runs. He's also played mostly second base over that stretch, and that could be a path to playing time for him with the big club if the Jays would prefer to use Davis Schneider more in left field.       Vargas went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and a run in Thursday's 11-7 victory versus Pittsburgh.

      Advice: Vargas started in left field and batted eighth in the order. He hit safely in his fourth straight game with a fourth-inning double and also stole a base and scored after reaching on a fielder's choice in the fifth. Vargas has held his own with a .250/.318/.550 slash line, one homer, three doubles, three RBI, five runs and a steal over 22 plate appearances this season. He's currently on the short side of a platoon with Jason Heyward -- Vargas has started each of Los Angeles' past three games against a left-handed starter while sitting out the team's past four contests against a right-hander.       The Rays designated Ramirez for assignment on Friday, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

      Advice: The 29-year-old began the season as Tampa Bay's primary designated hitter, though he recently had been relegated to the small side of a platoon. Ramirez has never offered much power but hit .306 in 242 games over the previous two seasons, and through 169 plate appearances in 2024 he's batting .268 with just four extra-base hits and a 1.8 percent walk rate.       Phillies acquired INF Buddy Kennedy from the Tigers for cash considerations.

      Advice: Kennedy was traded one day after clearing waivers and being sent outright to Triple-A. Now he’ll be in Triple-A Lehigh Valley with the Phillies organization.       Advice: The official transactions log on MLB.com had listed Kennedy as having been outrighted by the Tigers after clearing waivers, but that was erroneous and has since been deleted. Instead, he's headed to Lehigh Valley, where he will give the Phillies some infield depth. Kennedy has slashed .205/.294/.316 in 46 games over parts of three seasons in the majors.
