    • J.T. Realmuto out Sunday with ‘banged up’ knee
      J.T. Realmuto is out of the lineup Sunday against the Marlins while dealing with a knee issue.

      Advice: Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters before Sunday’s game that Realmuto showed up to the park with a “banged up” knee, so he decided to give the backstop a day off. Thomson also said that the absence was precautionary, so there’s a good chance Realmuto is back in the coming days. Garrett Stubbs is hitting ninth and catching Sunday.       Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Realmuto is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins due to a knee injury, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: More specifically, Thomson said Realmuto's knee was "a little banged up" when he reported to the ballpark earlier Sunday, so the Phillies opted to give him the series finale off. The skipper noted that he's not worried about Realmuto, but fantasy managers will still want to verify that the star catcher is back in the starting nine for Monday's game against the Mets before locking him into weekly fantasy lineups.       Adell went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Saturday's win over the Royals.

      Advice: Adell jumped on a hanging slider with two men on in the second and launched it 419 feet for his seventh home run of the season and the third in his last four games. The outfielder has also hit safely in five consecutive contests, racking up six RBI over that stretch to go along with five runs scored.       Jo Adell walloped a three-run homer on Saturday, leading the Angels to a decisive 9-3 victory over the Royals.

      Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-5 with four strikeouts on Saturday in the Cardinals’ loss to the Brewers.

      Advice: Yikes. Goldschmidt was unable to really get anything going in his return to St. Louis’ lineup after receiving a couple days off to mentally reset and work on his swing. The 36-year-old veteran first baseman, who was the National League’s MVP Award winner just two seasons ago, is off to the worst start of his career, batting .190 (27-for-142) with two homers, 11 RBI and one steal through 37 contests.       Trevor Megill managed to hang on Saturday against the Cardinals for his fourth save of the season.

      Advice: Megill made things interesting by surrendering a pair of two-out singles, which put the potential tying runs on-base, but managed to retire Nolan Arenado on a line drive to left field to extinguish the threat. The 30-year-old righty has reeled off six consecutive scoreless appearances since April 19 and looks like the favorite for saves in Milwaukee until All-Star stopper Devin Williams is ready to return around midseason.       Kyle Gibson struck out seven and allowed two runs over five innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Brewers.

      Advice: Gibson continues to exceed expectations in his Cardinals debut, allowing two earned runs or fewer for the sixth time in eight starts at the outset of the year. The 36-year-old veteran righty will bring a respectable 3.67 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 40/20 K/BB ratio across 49 innings (eight starts) into a favorable home matchup on Friday against the Red Sox.       Advice: Gibson also hit a batter, which forced in the Brewers' first run of the game. The wildness brought an end to his four-start run of quality starts, as he threw just 55 of 104 pitches for strikes Saturday. Gibson is at a 3.67 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 40:20 K:BB through 49 innings across eight starts this season. He had a 2.6 BB/9 in each of the previous two seasons, but it's now at 3.7 in 2024. While that hasn't led to more damage in the runs column, it's a dangerous trend for a 36-year-old whose best trait is his ability to eat innings.       Javier (2-1) took the loss against Detroit on Saturday, allowing seven runs on five hits and four walks with no strikeouts over 1.1 innings.

      Advice: Javier was activated off the injured list Saturday to make his first start for the Astros since April 14, but the right-hander didn't look quite right in his return. In addition to getting knocked around for seven runs and throwing only 21 of 50 pitches for strikes, Javier's final two fastballs clocked in at 89.7 mph and 90.2 mph, well below this typical velocity, as Chandler Rome of The Athletic notes. It's unclear whether his struggles Saturday are an indication that Javier isn't fully recovered from the neck issue that originally sidelined him or if he was simply rusty, but he's currently penciled in to make his next start at home against Oakland.
