    • Alex Wood lasts two innings in loss to Mariners
Alex Wood lasted just two innings in Sunday’s loss to the Mariners, giving up five runs (one earned) on four hits.

Advice: Wood also issued a base on balls and recorded a strikeout in the abbreviated outing. The M’s scratched out a run against him in the first inning on an RBI single by Mitch Garver. They tacked on four more runs in the second — the final two on a blast from Julio Rodriguez. Wood generated just four swings and misses on 60 pitches in the contest, posting a CSW of 25 percent. He’ll carry a troublesome 5.26 ERA and 1.78 WHIP into Friday’s matchup against the Royals in Kansas City. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:17 pm

    • Rebounds with seven scoreless
Verlander (2-1) earned the win after he pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out eight batters in Sunday's 9-3 victory over the Tigers.

Advice: Verlander was back to being sharp Sunday, limiting Detroit to just four baserunners while recording a season-high eight punchouts. The 41-year-old was coming off of allowing seven runs over five innings against the Yankees on Tuesday, but he rebounded with his third quality start over five outings in 2024. Verlander now owns a 3.38 ERA with 23 strikeouts over 29.1 innings this season, and his next projected start is set to come Friday at home versus the Brewers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:40 pm
    • Mookie Betts collects two hits in loss to Padres
Mookie Betts went 2-for-4 with a double as the Dodgers were shut out by the Padres on Sunday afternoon in San Diego.

Advice: As a team, the Dodgers tallied just four hits in the contest, with Betts accounting for half of them on his own — including their lone extra-base knock. He smacked a one-out double off of Yu Darvish in the sixth inning but was left stranded there. He then singled off of Wandy Peralta with two outs in the eighth inning. The 31-year-old superstar is having another extraordinary season at the dish — slashing .339/.441/.539 with six homers, 27 RBI and eight stolen bases. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:36 pm

    • Justin Verlander fans eight in taming Tigers
Justin Verlander blanked the Tigers for seven innings and struck out eight in the Astros’ 9-3 victory Sunday.

Advice: Despite never throwing a pitch over 95 mph, Verlander induced eight pop outs and allowed just two hard-hit balls in a masterclass today. It’s the 50th time in his 514 career starts that he’s pitched at least seven innings and gone without allowing a run. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:04 pm
    • Ryan Jeffers out Sunday against Blue Jays
Ryan Jeffers is not in the starting lineup versus the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Advice: Jeffers will get Sunday off for the series finale against the Jays. Christian Vazquez is starting behind the plate and hitting seventh. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:08 am

    • Getting breather Sunday
Jeffers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Jeffers looks to be getting a rest in the series finale after he started in each of the Twins' previous three games while going 2-for-11 with a pair of home runs and one walk. Christian Vazquez will spell Jeffers behind the dish. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:59 am

    • Nabs third win
Anderson (3-4) picked up the win over the Royals on Saturday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four over 6.2 innings.

Advice: Anderson surrendered one run in the top of the first on a Salvador Perez double before going 1-2-3 through each of the next three frames. The lefty would allow another run in both the sixth and seventh innings, but he was still able to secure his third win of the season thanks to being provided with ample run support. Anderson has now gone at least six innings in three consecutive starts and is yet to allow more than three earned runs in an outing. Saturday also marked his first win since April 8 against the Marlins, as he had lost each of his previous four decisions coming in. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:20 am
    • Two hits, RBI in loss
Gurriel went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Orioles.

Advice: Gurriel singled in the Diamondbacks' final run in the fifth inning. An earlier double extended a hit streak to four games, during which he's gone 6-for-18. The modest hit streak is a welcome sign for Gurriel, who endured a 2-for-37 slump over the nine previous games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:54 am
    • Records first steal in return
Suzuki went 2-for-5 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 10-9 loss to the Pirates. He also stole a base.

Advice: Suzuki had been out since April 14 due to an oblique injury before getting activated Friday, though he didn't play in that game. He wasted no time getting his bat going Saturday and recorded his first stolen base of the season in the process, so he appears to be fully healthy. The outfielder is now batting a robust .313 to go with an .894 OPS, and he should continue to slot into a prominent spot in Chicago's lineup. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:44 am
