    • Joe Ross departs game with back strain
Joe Ross left Monday’s game because of a strained lower back, according to the Brewers.

Advice: Definitely better than some of the alternatives. The Brewers are off Thursday, so if Ross feels better quickly, the team might not need to replace him in the rotation. If he does go on the IL, either Bradley Blalock or Tobias Myers could replace him in the rotation. Rotoworld Today, 4:29 pm

    • Exits start early
Ross was removed from Monday's start against the Marlins after one scoreless inning due to back tightness, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports.

Advice: Ross was reportedly dealing with some back tightness before Monday's start, but he felt good enough to give it a go after warming up. However, his back tightened back up during a 15-pitch first inning, and he's been officially diagnosed with a low back strain. Jared Koenig was called upon out of the bullpen following the right-hander's departure and will likely be asked to eat up a few frames. Rotowire.com Today, 4:15 pm

    • Joe Ross leaves game after one inning
Joe Ross exited Monday’s game after the first inning with an undisclosed injury.

Advice: Jared Koenig replaced Ross against the Marlins. Assuming that this is an IL-type situation, perhaps Bradley Blalock could join the rotation. Rotoworld Today, 4:12 pm

    • Back in big leagues
Atlanta recalled Vines from Triple-A Gwinnett after Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader against San Diego.

Advice: The right-hander in April after he gave up five runs over 9.2 frames in two starts for Atlanta, and he'll rejoin the big club ahead of Game 2 of Monday's twin bill. Vines will immediately be available out of the bullpen, but he could start Thursday against the Cubs if he's not called upon in the next couple days. Rotowire.com Today, 1:57 pm
    • Braves recall Darius Vines from Triple-A
Braves recalled RHP Darius Vines from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Advice: Vines will be available out of the pen tonight, and he could start Thursday or Friday. The right-hander made two starts for Atlanta last month, giving up five runs in 9 2/3 innings while going 0-1. He had a 4.58 ERA in six starts for Gwinnett. Rotoworld Today, 1:48 pm
    • Could be activated Friday
Thomas (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Harrisburg on Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Thomas is set to play Tuesday and Wednesday before being reevaluated. Assuming all goes well, it would set him up to be activated ahead of the Nationals' weekend series against the Mariners. Thomas has missed nearly a month of action with a Grade 2 MCL sprain of his left knee. Rotowire.com Today, 1:18 pm

    • Nearing game action
Robert (hip) is still awaiting his first action at the team's complex in Glendale, Ariz., Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. "We anticipate some game action later this week,'' general manager Chris Getz said. "He seems to have turned the corner and is trending well."

Advice: There was some hope that Robert would get into games in Arizona last week, but the White Sox decided not to push it. Robert missed more than three months with a similar injury in 2021, so it makes sense that the organization would take a cautious approach. While he remains without a definitive timetable to return to the majors, Robert seems to be progressing well, though at a deliberate pace. Rotowire.com Today, 5:35 am

    • Triples in two straight
Carroll went 1-for-4 with a triple, a walk and a run scored in Sunday's 6-4 win over Detroit. He was also caught stealing.

Advice: Carroll tripled to lead off the bottom of the first inning and scored the first of two Arizona runs during the frame. It was the second straight game with a triple for Carroll, who finished second in MLB last season with 10 three-baggers. He was moved back to the leadoff spot seven games ago, but it hasn't done much to break Carroll's season-long slump; he's 4-for-24 with three extra-base hits and five runs since the move and has been caught stealing twice. • Takes another loss on homer
Duran (0-2) took the loss Sunday against the Guardians, giving up a game-ending home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. He allowed three runs on one hit and two walks with no strikeouts in two-thirds of an inning.

Advice: It was the second home run that Duran allowed in the late innings in a tied game in the three-game series during which the Twins were swept. Duran hadn't walked a batter in eight innings before Sunday, so this is probably a minor setback. The bigger worry for fantasy managers is that he's been used in the eighth inning against the heart of the opposing team's order several times since his return from the injured list, ceding the save chance to another arm (usually Griffin Jax) in the bullpen. While Duran as the top choice for saves, Twins manager Rocco Baldelli isn't afraid to use him earlier in games or in tied games on the road. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:25 pm
