    • Hitting flips
Friedl (thumb) has progressed to hitting flips and hopes to be cleared to take batting practice soon, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Friedl is making a rapid recovery from a fractured left thumb, an injury he suffered just 11 days ago. If the outfielder is able to take batting practice soon, a brief rehab assignment should follow shortly after. He would appear on track for an early June return. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

    • Still on track for Monday return
Lodolo (groin) threw a successful extended bullpen session Wednesday and is set to throw off the mound again Saturday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Assuming he comes out of Saturday's session without any hiccups, Lodolo will be set to rejoin the Reds' rotation Monday against the Cardinals, which is the first day he's eligible for activation from the 15-day injured list. The left-hander is working his way back from a left groin strain. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago

    • Resting Thursday
Stephenson is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Padres.

Advice: After catching in both of the past two days, Stephenson will get a breather Thursday as the Reds and Padres wrap up their series with an afternoon game. Luke Maile will replace Stephenson as the Reds' starting catcher. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago
    • Homers in win
Marte went 2-for-5 with a solo homer in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Marte singled in his first at-bat to extend his hitting streak to 23 games and later added a solo homer to lead off the eighth, giving the Diamondbacks a 5-0 lead. The long ball was the second baseman's fifth this month and he's now recorded at least one RBI in three of his last five games, batting .318 over that brief stretch. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago
    • Ketel Marte homers, extends hit streak to 21 games
Ketel Marte went 2-for-5 with a solo homer in the Diamondbacks’ 6-0 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Advice: Marte came into this one riding a 20-game hitting streak. He extended it to 21 games right away with a base hit in the first inning. Marte later took Ryan Yarbrough deep for a solo homer in the eighth inning. The 30-year-old second baseman is hitting .291/.339/.523 with 10 homers, 35 runs scored, and 27 RBI across 221 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:03 pm
    • Swats another homer
Chapman went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and an additional run during Wednesday's 9-5 extra-inning win over the Pirates.

Advice: The 31-year-old tagged Jared Jones for a two-run home run in the sixth inning, Chapman's second straight game with a long ball. He's been red-hot in his last five games, going 11-for-18 (.611) with seven extra-base hits, 10 runs, five RBI and two stolen bases. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:25 pm

    • Comes up short in first loss
Skubal (6-1) took the loss Wednesday as the Tigers were downed 8-3 by the Royals, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out six.

Advice: In a matchup of elite southpaws, Skubal wasn't able to keep pace with Cole Ragans and failed to complete six innings for only the second time this season in 10 starts, while tying his season high in runs allowed. Skubal also served up a solo shot to Nelson Velazquez in the fourth inning, just the fourth homer off him in 60 innings. Skubal will take a 2.25 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 72:10 K:BB into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Pirates. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:26 pm

    • Jurickson Profar scores twice in victory over Reds
Jurickson Profar doubled, walked, scored a pair of runs and collected an RBI on Wednesday as the Padres triumphed over the Reds.

Advice: Profar worked Nick Martinez for a leadoff walk in the fourth inning and scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of David Peralta. He also chased Martinez from the game with an RBI double in the fifth inning, then came around to score on a run-scoring single off the bat of Jake Cronenworth. He’s in the midst of an outstanding season at the dish — slashing .339/.431/.517 to go along with seven homers, 32 RBI and three stolen bases. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:54 pm
    • Decision on surgery coming next week
Whitlock is scheduled to visit Dr. Jeff Dugas in Birmingham, Ala. on May 30, at which point a decision will be made whether he'll require surgery to address his right elbow sprain, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Whitlock was originally placed on the 15-day injured list April 17 with a left oblique strain, but the health of his pitching elbow is now the Red Sox's chief concern after he sustained the injury in his lone rehab start for Triple-A Worcester last Wednesday. He's reportedly dealing with damage to his UCL, so while the early expectation is that he'll need some kind of procedure to address the injury, he'll first consult with Dr. Dugas to see if rest and rehab is a viable treatment plan. Even if Whitlock is able to avoid surgery, he's still likely looking at an extended absence and likely won't be ready to rejoin the Red Sox until the second half of the season even in a best-case scenario.
