      Advice: Astonishingly, all of the damage against Lodolo came in the opening frame when the Giants struck for four runs, courtesy of a two-out grand slam from Matt Chapman, following a pair of hits and a walk. The 26-year-old southpaw settled in afterwards, keeping San Francisco off the scoreboard over his final five frames of work, but it wasn’t enough to take him off the hook for a loss. He finished with six strikeouts and only issued one walk, generating 13 swinging strikes and finishing with a respectable 33 percent CSW. The left-hander has built upon last year's breakout campaign to emerge as one of MLB's top hurlers and Detroit's undeniable staff ace. He also gave up two hits in the fourth, but Lodolo escaped that rough patch with no further damage. The southpaw started the season with just five runs allowed over his first four starts, but he's been tagged for four runs in each of his last two outings. He's now at a 3.34 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB through 35 innings over six starts this season.       Advice: Fairbanks was activated from the IL earlier in the day following a nearly three-week absence with a nerve issue. Rays manager Kevin Cash put him right to work, asking him to preserve a five-run lead in the ninth. Fairbanks did so without a sweat, needing just 11 pitches to complete the 1-2-3 frame. The 30-year-old now sits on a 7.88 ERA and 11:8 K:BB over eight innings this season. The only damage done against him came in the fourth inning, on run-scoring singles by Alex Bregman and Yainer Diaz. Aside from that, Skubal was in complete control. The flame-throwing 27-year-old southpaw generated 15 swings and misses on 97 pitches on the night — six on his changeup — while posting a strong CSW of 34 percent. He has been as good as advertised this season, posting a 5-0 record, 2.02 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and a 60/8 K/BB ratio across 49 innings through his first eight starts.       Pete Fairbanks looked sharp in his return from the injured list on Saturday, retiring all three hitters that he faced against the Yankees.

      Advice: It wasn’t a save situation, but Fairbanks was given the ball with the Rays leading 7-2 heading into the ninth inning. He came on and got Anthony Rizzo to line out to first base, Gleyber Torres on a called third strike and Jose Trevino on a ground ball to short to end it — needing just 11 pitches (seven strikes) to get the job done.
