    • Zach Eflin gives up four over seven against PIT
Zach Eflin gave up four runs in seven innings while being charged with a loss Saturday to the Pirates.

Advice: Eflin struck out six while issuing one walk. The 30-year-old right-hander gave up a long homer to Oneil Cruz in the first, and then gave up three runs in the third before settling down nicely. It was far from an abhorrent start, but Jared Jones was the better starter Saturday afternoon. Eflin now has a 4.20 ERA and (much more impressive) 63/6 K/BB through his 81 1/3 innings. • Takes step toward return
Musgrove (elbow) lightly threw weighted plyometric balls Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: A previous report indicated Musgrove could play catch around the middle of the week, but it turns out the extent of his throwing was the work he did with the plyo balls. The workout was, however, a step in his progression toward playing catch, which could happen before the end of the month. Musgrove doesn't seem close to taking part in a rehab assignment and isn't likely to be activated off the 15-day injured list until after the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Saturday, 12:38 pm

    • Builds up to 66 pitches
Williams (elbow) struck out four and allowed one earned run on four hits and no walks across five innings in his rehab start Friday with Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: Making the fifth start of his rehab assignment, Williams delivered his longest outing yet in terms of both innings and pitches (66, 47 strikes). A decision on Williams' next step hasn't been decided, but the Guardians may want to see him get over the 70-pitch mark with one more rehab start during the upcoming week before he makes his long-awaited return from the 60-day injured list. The young right-hander has been on the shelf all season with elbow discomfort, an injury that stemmed from him making an awkward throw during a weighted-ball workout in spring training. • Facing hitters Sunday
Senga (shoulder) will throw live batting practice Sunday, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Senga has had no issues throwing bullpen sessions over the last several days, so he will now graduate to throwing 20 pitches against hitters at the Mets' complex in Florida. Assuming all goes well, the 31-year-old righty will likely throw another few live sessions before being cleared to begin a rehab assignment with one of the Mets' minor-league affiliates. • Beginning assignment Sunday
Snell (groin) will make his first rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Snell pitched three innings in a simulated game Tuesday, and the goal will be to build him up to 50 pitches during his first game in Triple-A. The Giants haven't announced whether they will keep the southpaw in the minors past Saturday or return him to their rotation right away, but a decision will likely be made shortly after his first start. • Kodai Senga (shoulder) set to face hitters Sunday
Kodai Senga (shoulder) will progress to facing hitters on Sunday in a live batting practice session.

Advice: It’ll be the first time Senga faces hitters since experiencing a setback in his rehabilitation process back in late May. The 31-year-old righty is still weeks away from a potential return to New York’s starting rotation and isn’t going to make his season debut until sometime after next month’s All-Star break. • Blake Snell to make rehab start Sunday at Triple-A
Blake Snell (groin) will make a minor league rehab start on Sunday for Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Snell, who has been on the shelf since early June recovering from a left groin strain, will be followed by fellow veteran southpaw Robbie Ray, who is in the final stages of his rehabilitation from last year’s Tommy John surgery. The hope here is that Snell, who is slated to throw roughly 50 pitches on Sunday, will be ready to jump back into San Francisco’s starting rotation after a brief rehab assignment. • Clean inning for save
Miller struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Friday's 6-5 win over the Twins.

Advice: Shea Langeliers put the Athletics ahead in the eighth inning, and Miller was able to slam the door in the ninth. He hasn't been charged with a run over his last 4.2 innings while posting a 5:2 K:BB in that span. The closer is up to 14 saves with a 2.08 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 60:13 K:BB over 34.2 innings this season. Rotowire.com Friday, 10:15 pm

    • Mason Miller needs just seven pitches for save
Mason Miller struck out one in a clean ninth to get a save against the Twins on Friday.

Advice: Miller “only” picked up one strikeout, but he also needed just seven pitches to get through the outing with five of those landing for strikes. The 25-year-old has locked down 14 saves for the A’s in 2024, and his ERA is a very healthy 2.08. The future is incredibly bright for Miller as long as he can stay on the field, but this version is pretty darn good, too. Rotoworld Friday, 9:09 pm
