      Mets’ manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters on Wednesday that Tylor Megill (shoulder) will return from the injured list to start on Sunday or Monday.

      Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander looked sharp in his final rehab start at Triple-A Syracuse, punching out seven batters across four innings of shutout baseball, though he only threw 62 pitches in that start.       Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Megill (shoulder) will return from the 15-day injured list to start either Sunday in Miami or Monday in Cleveland, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

      Advice: Earlier in the week, Mendoza was non-committal regarding what type of role Megill might handle once activated, but the Mets cleared up their rotation logjam a bit Wednesday, when Jose Butto was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. Joey Lucchesi was called up from Triple-A to start Wednesday's game in Philadelphia, but he could be sent back to the minors shortly thereafter in preparation for Megill's return to the rotation. Megill has performed well over his four minor-league rehab starts across stops with High-A Brooklyn, Double-A Binghamton and Syracuse, striking out 23 while allowing just one earned run on nine hits and one walk over 14 innings.       Andrew Abbott yielded one run over seven innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Abbott was forced to settle for a no-decision after locking horns with opposing starter Brandon Pfaadt in a throwback pitcher’s duel. He allowed just four hits over seven frames with a second-inning homer by Arizona slugger Christian Walker representing the lone tally against him. He finished with four strikeouts and only handed out a pair of free passes.       Sale (6-1) picked up the win in Tuesday's 7-0 victory over the Cubs, scattering two hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out nine without walking a batter.

      Advice: The veteran southpaw simply overmatched Chicago's hitters, and the only runner to get into scoring position against Sale came after one of his two HBPs on the night. He generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 92 pitches as he produced his second straight quality start and fourth of the season. Sale will take a 2.54 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and eye-popping 61:8 K:BB through 49.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Padres.     • Chris Sale stays hot in domination of Cubs
      Chris Sale threw seven shutout innings in a 7-0 win over the Cubs, allowing just two hits and striking out nine.

      Advice: He’s now allowed just two runs over his last 25 innings. Sale’s slider carved up the Cubs all game, with a 44 percent whiff rate and 34 percent CSW on the pitch. The average exit velocity on all contact against Sale was just 81 mph as the left-hander mowed down the Cubs’ order. The effort gave him a 2.54 ERA on the year to go along with 61 strikeouts to just eight walks in 49 2/3 innings.       Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Monday that he hasn't yet committed to including Megill (shoulder) in the rotation once he's activated from the 15-day injured list, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Megill, who has been on the IL since April 1 with a shoulder strain, has been building up as a starter during his rehab assignment. In his fourth rehab start this past Sunday with Triple-A Syracuse, Megill struck out six over 5.1 scoreless innings while tossing 74 pitches, but with the big-league rotation looking crowded at the moment, the right-hander may have to settle for a multi-inning relief role upon his reinstatement.       Advice: In what could be the right-hander's final rehab start, Megill built up to 74 pitches (55 strikes) as he dominated Lehigh Valley. Over four rehab appearances, Megill has an eye-popping 23:1 K:BB over 14 innings while allowing just one run. There's no clear vacancy in the big-league rotation at the moment with Christian Scott getting promoted from Triple-A earlier this month, but the Mets could go with a six-man rotation in the short term, as they don't get a day off until May 23.       Mikolas (3-5) allowed three runs on six hits and three walks over six innings Sunday, striking out three and earning a win over the Brewers.

      Advice: It looked like Mikolas would be chased early after Milwaukee plated three runs in the first inning. Instead, he settled in for a quality start and allowed only one Brewer to reach scoring position over the next five frames. He now has four quality starts through nine outings this season, with two coming in his last three appearances. Mikolas forced just four whiffs Sunday and hasn't reached double digits in any start this year. He'll carry a 6.19 ERA into his next outing, which is lined up to be at home against Boston.       Darvish (3-1) earned the win over the Dodgers on Sunday after firing seven shutout innings and allowing just two hits and a walk. He struck out seven.

      Advice: Darvish extended his scoreless innings streak to 17 innings in another dominant outing since returning from the injured list April 30. He retired the first 14 hitters he faced in order until walking Andy Pages with two outs in the fifth. Darvish generated an excellent 19 whiffs and tied his season high with seven strikeouts.
