    • Up to 23 saves
Helsley worked around a pair of walks in the ninth inning to earn the save in Friday's 3-0 win over the Cubs. He struck out two.

Advice: After recording the first two outs in the ninth, Helsley issued consecutive walks to Seiya Suzuki and Ian Happ before striking out Nico Hoerner to earn his MLB-leading 23rd save of the year. Helsley hasn't blown a save since March 30, in his first appearance of the season. His ERA on the year is down to 2.61 with a 1.13 WHIP and 35:10 K:BB across 31 innings. • Ryan Helsley picks up 23rd save with hitless ninth
Ryan Helsley notched his 23rd save Friday with a hitless ninth against the Cubs.

Advice: Helsley walked a pair of batters with two outs, drawing a visit from the pitching coach, but he then struck out Nico Hoerner to end the game. Since it was his third appearance in four days, he might be down tomorrow, potentially giving Andrew Kittredge a save chance. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:05 pm

    • Records save No. 22
Helsley allowed one hit and struck out one batter over a scoreless inning to earn a save against the Pirates on Wednesday.

Advice: Helsley had a rough outing Tuesday against Pittsburgh, giving up two runs over one frame to take the loss. He was right back on the mound the next day and bounced back nicely, working around a leadoff single to finish off the victory. Helsley has converted 22 straight save chances since blowing a save in his first opportunity of the campaign, and the 22 saves overall leads all major-league pitchers. • Struggles early in no-decision
Pivetta did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Phillies, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks with four strikeouts over four innings.

Advice: It was a rough night from the start, as Pivetta allowed the first three batters he faced to reach base and surrendered two runs in each of the first and third innings. The four walks were a season high, and he allowed at least one baserunner in every inning. Pivetta has been inconsistent this season, with six starts of two or fewer earned runs and three starts yielding five. On the season, Pivetta owns a 3.88 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 55:13 K:BB in nine starts and lines up against the Blue Jays next Monday. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:59 pm

Oddly enough, his nine starts this season have seen him strike out at least eight on five occasions and no more than four the rest of the time. He’s 3-4 with a 3.88 ERA. Rotoworld Wednesday, 8:37 pm

    • Takes loss against Pirates
Helsley (2-3) took the loss Tuesday against Pittsburgh, allowing two runs on one hit and two walks with a strikeout over one inning.

Advice: Helsley took the mound in the top of the ninth with the score 0-0, but he couldn't keep the game at a stalemate. The 29-year-old walked Jack Suwinski, yielded a single to Andrew McCutchen and walked Bryan Reynolds to load the bases with no outs. Suwinski and McCutchen ended up coming around to score before Helsley was able to record three outs, marking the closer's first loss since April 19 and bumping his ERA up from 2.25 to 2.79 through 29.0 innings. • Secures 21st save
Helsley picked up the save in Friday's 8-5 victory over Colorado. He pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Advice: Helsley handily retired all three batters faced in his third consecutive scoreless outing to gather his league-leading 21st save. The Cardinals closer has been stellar, suffering just one blown save in his 28 total appearances. Overall, the 29-year-old flamethrower sports a 2.25 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 31:6 K:BB in 28 innings this season. Rotowire.com Friday, 10:02 pm

    • Ryan Helsley picks up 21st save vs. Rockies
Ryan Helsley converted a save while not allowing a run during Friday’s game against the Rockies.

Advice: Helsley breezed through his inning with a pair of strikeouts and needed just 11 pitches to pick up his 21st save of the season. The right-hander has had a couple scuffles in the first two-plus months of the campaign, but overall there haven’t been many stoppers better in 2024. Rotoworld Friday, 8:27 pm
