    • Blanks reds over five innings
      Darvish (1-1) grabbed a win over the Reds on Tuesday, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just three hits in the outing. He struck three and did not walk a batter.

      Advice: Darvish was finally able to pick up his first win of the season and help the Padres end a five-game losing streak. Tuesday was his first shutout effort since July 29 of last year. He was efficient, needing 70 pitches to get through five while inducing a bunch of weak contact. His strikeout numbers remain low in comparison to his career numbers, as he's now struck out three or fewer batters in three of his six starts so far. Still, Tuesday's outing was exactly what the Padres needed out of him, and he'll take a 3.45 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB into his next outing, which projects to be against the Cubs at the beginning of next week.     • Strikes out seven before ejection
      Peralta (3-0) earned the win Tuesday against Tampa Bay, allowing two earned runs on one hit while striking out seven batters across 5.1 innings.

      Advice: Peralta was fantastic again Tuesday, needing just 66 pitches to get through 5.1 innings while only allowing one hit -- a Jose Siri home run. The 27-year-old pitcher wasn't showing any signs of slowing down on the mound, but his start came to an abrupt and controversial end when he hit Siri with a pitch in the sixth inning. The umpires deemed the HBP an intentional act, leading to Peralta's ejection from the game. Despite being tossed, Tuesday's outing was a strong bounce-back performance from his five-run showing Thursday against Pittsburgh. He has now struck out 45 batters in 33.2 innings this year and will carry a 3.21 ERA and 0.86 WHIP into his next start -- currently projected for Monday in Kansas City.     • Yu Darvish blanks Reds for five innings in win
      Yu Darvish shut out the Reds for five innings to win Tuesday in his return from the injured list.

      Advice: Darvish allowed three hits, walked none and struck out three in the 6-4 victory. It’s his first win in six starts this season, and it’s the first time he’s gone without allowing a run since last July 29 against the Rangers.     • Hard-luck loss Tuesday
      Berrios (4-2) took the loss Tuesday against the Royals, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: Berrios was solid Tuesday, holding the Royals to two runs on a Michael Massey homer in the second inning, en route to a sixth quality start in seven outings this year. However, the 29-year-old Berrios was ultimately stuck with a second straight loss to Kansas City as the Blue Jays could only muster a lone run off Cole Ragans. Berrios lowered his ERA to an excellent 1.44 with a 1.01 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB through 43.2 innings this season.     • José Berríos gets tough luck loss against Royals
      José Berríos allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings in a loss to the Royals on Tuesday.

      Advice: Berríos was good, but Cole Ragans was just better. Berríos also struck out just three on the evening while walking one and posting just a 13 percent whiff rate. He did register a 27 percent CSW thanks to his ability to pound the zone with his sinker, but his curve and changeup couldn’t consistently find the zone and he got few chases out of the zone on that breaking ball which limited his overall effectiveness. Berríos has outpitched his peripheries so far this year and there is some regression coming on his 1.44 ERA but you can still start him every game while he’s pitching like this, including next week against the Phillies.     • Freddy Peralta ejected Tuesday after hitting batter
      Freddy Peralta was ejected from Tuesday’s start against the Rays.

      Advice: Peralta was absolutely dealing in this one, striking out seven and allowing just two runs over 5 1/3 innings before he and Brewers manager Pat Murphy were both ejected by home plate umpire Chris Guccione in the sixth inning after Jose Siri, who homered earlier in the contest, was plunked by a 3-0 pitch. The ejection was made even more outrageous by the fact that Milwaukee held a five-run lead at the time. The 27-year-old righty will face the Royals on Monday in his next outing.       The Padres activated Darvish (neck) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Tuesday against the Reds.

      Advice: The veteran right-hander has been sidelined the past couple weeks with neck tightness, but he'll rejoin San Diego's rotation Tuesday after a minimum-length stay on the injured list. Darvish posted a 4.18 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB across 23.2 innings through his first five starts of the season, and he could have some minor workload limitations in his first outing back with the Friars.       Nick Pivetta (elbow) is scheduled to make a minor league rehab start on Thursday.

      Advice: Pivetta is targeting an early-May return to Boston’s starting rotation after landing on the injured list back on April 9 with a flexor strain in his right elbow.
