      Luke Raley (lat) returned to the Mariners’ starting lineup on Friday night.

      Advice: The 29-year-old slugger sat out Thursday’s contest due to lat soreness, but it appears to have been only a minor issue. Raley will start in left field and bat eighth against Angels’ right-hander Jose Soriano on Friday evening in Seattle. The 29-year-old outfielder is slashing .292/.346/.486 since the beginning of May, but he has been in a slump recently, tallying just one hit in 19 at-bats while striking out 10 times in his last seven games.       The Padres are still evaluating Darvish's left hamstring injury and have not ruled out him making his next scheduled start Tuesday versus the Angels, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

      Advice: Darvish had to be lifted from Wednesday's outing against the Marlins after his hamstring tightened up on him. While it's a good sign he hasn't been placed on the 10-day injured list yet, no final determination has been made regarding his status for his next turn or a possible IL stint.     • Yu Darvish (hamstring) could still make next start
      Padres’ manager Mike Shildt told reporters on Friday that Yu Darvish (hamsting) is still being evaluated and that there’s a chance he’ll be able to make his next scheduled start on Tuesday.

      Advice: The Padres haven’t placed Darvish on the injured list — and may not at all — depending on how he feels over the next couple of days. It sounds like they’ll continue to take things a day at a time with the 37-year-old hurler.     • Fans nine batters in defeat
      Pivetta (2-4) took the loss against Detroit on Thursday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out nine batters over 5.1 innings.

      Advice: Pivetta's nine punchouts were his most since his season debut March 29, and the outing was a nice bounce-back from his five-run, 3.1-inning start his previous time on the mound. However, Boston's offense couldn't generate any runs, saddling the right-hander with his fourth loss.       Nick Pivetta struck out nine while allowing just two runs over 5 2/3 innings, but still was charged with a loss Thursday against the Tigers.

      Advice: Pivetta gave up only three hits while walking two. He allowed a solo homer to Akil Baddoo, and another run crossed on an RBI single from Mark Canha. The right-hander has struck out at least eight batters in three of his last four chances, and he’s given up no more than two runs in those outings. Pivetta can drive fantasy managers mad with the occasional clunker, but the strikeouts are usually there. He’ll take a 4.08 ERA into his next scheduled outing against Atlanta on Wednesday.       Francisco Alvarez (thumb) crushed a three-run homer on Thursday in a minor league rehab contest for Double-A Binghamton.

      Advice: Alvarez kicked off his minor league rehab assignment by catching five innings behind the plate and slugging a monstrous three-run homer in his second plate appearance.     • Suzuki hits pinch hit home run Thursday
      Seiya Suzuki went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run against the Brewers on Thursday.

      Advice: The home run was Suzuki’s fifth of the season. He pinch hit in the seventh inning a homered off left-handed reliever Bryan Hudson. It was just the second home run for Suzuki since coming off the injured list on May 11th. He seems to be over the injury as he’s now on a seven-game hitting streak.       Raley is absent from the Mariners' lineup Thursday due to a sore lat, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

      Advice: It offers an explanation as to why Raley was not starting against the Astros even with a right-hander on the mound. The hope seems to be that it will be only a brief absence, so consider Raley day-to-day for the time being.
