    • Steele allows five runs in no-decision
      Justin Steele allowed five runs (one earned) in five innings and got a no-decision in the Cubs’ 7-5 victory over the Reds on Saturday.



      Advice: Steele gave up seven hits, walked four and struck out five. He seemed to be turning a corner with seven shutout innings in his last start, but this was a setback for Steele. Even though most of the runs were unearned, he’s now allowed at least five runs in four of his last five starts. Steele has completed six innings in only two of his seven starts this year. His ERA was mostly spared in this one and now sits at 4.10 for the season, but when you add it all up this isn’t a recipe for winning games right now. The 28-year-old left-hander will look to improve against the Reds on the road next week.

    • Lands on injured list
      The Padres placed Darvish on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left groin strain.

      Advice: Darvish had to make an early exit from his start Wednesday against Miami due to hamstring problems, but the issue appears to instead be groin-related. His move to the IL is backdated to Thursday, allowing him to be eligible to return June 14. He will be joined by fellow starter Joe Musgrove (elbow) on the injured list while Randy Vasquez and Logan Gillaspie come up from Triple-A El Paso to take their places.     • Padres put Yu Darvish on IL with left groin strain
      Padres placed RHP Yu Darvish on the 15-day injured list with a left groin strain.

      Advice: Darvish was originally believed to be dealing with a hamstring issue, but it turns out to be a groin strain that will keep him sidelined for at least a few weeks. The 37-year-old righty lasted just three innings on Wednesday against the Marlins before exiting due to hamstring tightness and holds a solid 3.20 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and a 53/15 K/BB ratio over 56 1/3 innings (11 starts) this season.     • Sharp in Friday's no-decision
      Berrios came away with a no-decision in Friday's 5-3 extra-innings win over the Pirates, allowing one run on six hits over seven innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.

      Advice: The right-hander pounded the zone in his fourth straight quality start and 10th in 12 trips to the mound this season, firing 69 of 101 pitches for strikes. Berrios is tracking toward a career year, and he'll take a 2.78 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 58:18 K:BB through 74.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Orioles.     • José Berríos allows one earned run in no-decision
      José Berríos struck out five Pirates across seven innings on Friday in a no-decision. He allowed six hits and didn’t walk a batter.

      Advice: Berríos leaned into his trusted slurve in this one and kept the Pirates off-balance all night. He’s allowed more than three earned runs in just one start this season while completing at least six innings 10 times in 12 starts. That’s as steady as they come. Rotoworld Friday, 8:05 pm

      The Padres are still evaluating Darvish's left hamstring injury and have not ruled out him making his next scheduled start Tuesday versus the Angels, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

      Advice: Darvish had to be lifted from Wednesday's outing against the Marlins after his hamstring tightened up on him. While it's a good sign he hasn't been placed on the 10-day injured list yet, no final determination has been made regarding his status for his next turn or a possible IL stint.       Padres’ manager Mike Shildt told reporters on Friday that Yu Darvish (hamsting) is still being evaluated and that there’s a chance he’ll be able to make his next scheduled start on Tuesday.

      Advice: The Padres haven’t placed Darvish on the injured list — and may not at all — depending on how he feels over the next couple of days. It sounds like they’ll continue to take things a day at a time with the 37-year-old hurler.       Pivetta (2-4) took the loss against Detroit on Thursday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out nine batters over 5.1 innings.

      Advice: Pivetta's nine punchouts were his most since his season debut March 29, and the outing was a nice bounce-back from his five-run, 3.1-inning start his previous time on the mound. However, Boston's offense couldn't generate any runs, saddling the right-hander with his fourth loss.     • Nick Pivetta strikes out nine, still takes loss
      Nick Pivetta struck out nine while allowing just two runs over 5 2/3 innings, but still was charged with a loss Thursday against the Tigers.

      Advice: Pivetta gave up only three hits while walking two. He allowed a solo homer to Akil Baddoo, and another run crossed on an RBI single from Mark Canha. The right-hander has struck out at least eight batters in three of his last four chances, and he’s given up no more than two runs in those outings. Pivetta can drive fantasy managers mad with the occasional clunker, but the strikeouts are usually there. He’ll take a 4.08 ERA into his next scheduled outing against Atlanta on Wednesday.
