    • Ryan picks up fifth win against A’s Thursday
Joe Ryan allowed two runs in seven innings and got the win in the Twins’ 6-2 victory over the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Ryan gave up three hits, walked one and struck out five. The win was his fifth of the year. Both of the runs for Oakland came on a Tyler Soderstrom two-run home run in the second inning. Ryan hung a splitter to Soderstrom, but it was basically the only mistake he made on the night. It was Ryan’s 10th quality start of the season. His ERA is now 3.24 on the year. The 28-year-old right-hander is set to face the Rays at home next week.

    • Struggles against Mets
Garrett (2-2) took the loss against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits and no walks while striking out four batters over 4.2 innings.

Advice: Garrett was tagged by Harrison Bader for a two-run homer in the first inning, and he gave up three more runs in the second. The left-hander settled down a bit from there, but he was pulled with two outs in the fifth inning after serving up a solo shot to Starling Marte. It was the second straight start during which Garrett was unable to complete five frames -- he went just 2.2 innings versus Tampa Bay in his previous appearance. Garrett was great in back-to-back starts May 24 and 29, allowing just one run over 14 frames. However, he's given up at least four earned runs in each of his other four outings and has a poor 6.10 ERA overall this season. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:26 pm
    • Braxton Garrett struggles in loss to Mets
Braxton Garrett struggled in a losing effort against the Mets on Wednesday night, giving up six runs (four earned) on seven hits over his 4 2/3 frames.

Advice: Garrett punched out four batters on the night and didn’t walk a batter. Most of the damage done against him came via the long ball, with Harrison Bader crushing a two-run homer in the opening inning and Starling Marte added a solo shot in the third. The Mets also scratched out three runs in the second inning — helped by some shoddy defense by the Marlins. The 26-year-old southpaw got eight whiffs on 89 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 24 percent. He’ll carry an unappealing 6.10 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and a 28/4 K/BB ratio (31 innings) into Monday’s matchup against the Cardinals. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:47 pm
    • Grabs fourth win
Montgomery (4-4) got the win over the Angels on Tuesday, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Montgomery got through two innings unscathed before the Angels tacked on a pair of runs in the third. He got through another two clean innings before Taylor Ward took him deep to lead off the sixth. Montgomery retired the next two batters before being replaced by Kevin Ginkel to face Logan O'Hoppe. The strikeout numbers remain down for Montgomery. He hasn't struck out more than five batters since May 13 and is averaging 5.5 K/9, which would be his lowest mark since 2018. The 31-year-old southpaw owns a 6.58 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 32:19 K:BB in 52 innings and lines up for a favorable matchup against the White Sox this weekend. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:19 am
    • Jordan Montgomery fans three, gets win over Angels
Jordan Montgomery allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings Tuesday in a defeat of the Angels.

Advice: Montgomery hasn’t done much after signing late, but he was able to take down one of the teams that snubbed him in free agency to even his record at 4-4. He’ll bring a 6.58 ERA into his next start against the White Sox on Sunday. Perhaps he’ll take advantage of another weak lineup then. Rotoworld Tuesday, 11:49 pm
    • Zac Gallen (hamstring) throws bullpen on Tuesday
Zac Gallen (hamstring) threw a 31-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday.

Advice: It’s an encouraging development that Gallen has progressed to throwing side sessions after resuming throwing over the weekend without any issues. The 28-year-old workhorse landed on the injured list back in late May with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain and is expected to miss at least a few weeks. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo told reporters Gallen will throw another bullpen session on Friday and will likely need at least one or two simulated games before returning. Rotoworld Tuesday, 4:07 pm

    • Works off mound
Gallen (hamstring) threw a bullpen session Tuesday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Gallen began throwing off flat ground Saturday, and Tuesday marks the first time he's thrown off a mound since landing on the IL with a strained right hamstring. Manager Torey Lovullo said the 28-year-old righty is slated for another bullpen session Friday, after which he will likely progress to pitching sim games before returning to Arizona's rotation. • Jordan Romano (elbow) resumes throwing
Jordan Romano resumed throwing the last two days and could get back on a mound later this week.

Advice: Romano, out with elbow inflammation, is eligible to come the IL on Saturday, but there are no plans to activate him then. If everything goes well, he could be back before the end of the month. Rotoworld Monday, 4:04 pm

    • Set to throw off mound
Snell (groin) is scheduled to throw off the mound later this week, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Snell landed on the injured list due to a mild left groin strain he sustained June 2 against the Yankees. He recently began throwing off flat ground, and the 31-year-old southpaw will take the next step in his rehab by throwing off a mound. Snell started in six games prior to his groin injury, going 0-3 with a 9.51 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 31:14 K:BB over 23.2 innings. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:55 pm
