    • Reid Detmers shaky again, gives up five runs
Reid Detmers gave up five runs — four earned — in five innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Cardinals.

Advice: Detmers is high on the short list of the game’s most frustrating pitchers. After a very encouraging open that saw him go 3-0 with a 1.19 ERA in his first four starts, he’s 0-4 with an 8.46 ERA in his last five turns. His peripherals backed up the hot start, but they also mostly back up the huge decline since. We have no clue what’s next from him, but we’d be hesitant to give up on him in mixed leagues; his stuff really does seem to be better than it was last year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:24 pm

    • Struggles versus Cardinals
Detmers allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings in a no-decision versus the Cardinals.

Advice: While he avoided a fifth straight loss, it was still a poor showing for Detmers. He's given up at least four earned runs in each of his last five outings while walking multiple batters in four of them. He kept the ball in the yard Tuesday, which was a positive, but it's not as encouraging as it could be since the Cardinals have been bereft of power this year. Detmers is at a 5.19 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 56:18 K:BB over 50.1 innings across nine starts in 2024. He's projected to make his next start on the road in Houston. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:50 pm

    • Cruises with seven scoreless frames
Kirby (4-3) earned the win over Kansas City on Monday, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out six batters over seven scoreless innings.

Advice: Kirby was shaky to begin his outing, allowing a single to the second hitter he faced and then loading the bases on consecutive hit-by-pitches. He worked his way out of that threat, though, and yielded just two harmless singles the rest of the way to finish with his fourth scoreless start of the campaign. The right-hander had an 8.16 ERA through three starts this season but has lowered that to 3.58 by giving up two or fewer runs in five of his subsequent six appearances. He's registered four quality starts over that stretch. Rotowire.com Monday, 11:17 pm

    • George Kirby blanks Royals over seven in victory
George Kirby held the Royals to three hits with six strikeouts in seven shutout innings to help the Mariners to a win Monday by a 6-2 score.

Advice: After struggling for the majority of his start against the Twins, Kirby bounced back nicely. As is usually the case, he didn’t put on any runners via walk, and he pounded the strike zone with 68-of-101 pitches going for strikes. When Kirby doesn’t have his best stuff/command the results can be problematic. He usually does. Kirby will face the Orioles next. Rotoworld Monday, 9:17 pm

    • Gavin Williams to throw bullpen session
Gavin Williams is set to throw a bullpen session Tuesday for the first time since receiving an injection for his elbow.

Advice: “I watched him play catch yesterday,” manager Stephen Vogt said. “He looks free and easy, so we’re excited.” Williams has been out since the spring after injuring his elbow while throwing a weighted ball. Rotoworld Monday, 4:09 pm

    • Working through mechanical issues
Senga (shoulder) won't face hitters again until he works through some mechanical issues, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The right-hander threw 32 pitches in a live bullpen session last weekend, but he apparently wasn't satisfied with how it went. Senga will take a step back in his throwing program and go back to more controlled bullpen sessions without hitters involved until he's sure he won't be developing any bad habits as he progresses in his rehab from a shoulder strain. While the caution is smart in the long run, the hiccup will almost certainly ensure that Senga won't be ready to join the Mets rotation when he's first eligible to come off the 60-day injured list in late May. • Rebounds against White Sox
Allen (4-2) yielded six hits and a walk over six scoreless frames Sunday, striking out three and earning a win over the White Sox.

Advice: Allen wasn't incredibly sharp Sunday but was able to work out of multiple sticky situations while Cleveland combined for a shutout against the White Sox. It was a much-needed bounce-back after he was tagged with seven runs in just 2.1 innings against Detroit in his last start. Allen forced 11 whiffs Sunday, his highest total since his season debut March 29. It was his first scoreless outing since April 3, which was also the last time he completed at least six frames. Allen is sporting a 5.56 ERA with a 36:15 K:BB through 45.1 innings. His next start is currently lined up to be at home against the Twins. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:22 pm

    • Logan Allen combines on shutout of White Sox
Logan Allen scattered six hits over six innings and combined with three relievers on the Guardians’ 7-0 shutout of the White Sox on Sunday.

Advice: Allen struck out three and walked one. Most likely, he would have given up a few runs if he had faced a major league offense today, but he’ll take it; he had surrendered 13 earned runs over 12 2/3 innings in going 0-2 in his previous three starts. He’s now 4-2 with 5.56 ERA overall. Rotoworld Sunday, 2:12 pm

    • Strikes out eight in return from IL
Luzardo (0-3) took the loss Saturday versus the Phillies, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He recorded eight strikeouts.

Advice: Luzardo looked sharp in his return from the injured list, striking out eight while picking up an impressive 18 swinging strikes on just 79 pitches. He might have tired a bit in the sixth, as he gave up a double and a game-tying RBI single before being lifted with two outs and a runner on. That runner came around to score, adding another run to his ledger. While the ending of his night wasn't ideal, it was an encouraging performance from Luzardo against a tough lineup. His next start will come at home versus the Mets. Rotowire.com Saturday, 5:05 pm
