      Advice: After issuing a leadoff walk to Jurickson Profar in the ninth, Diaz struck out Manny Machado before inducing a game-ending double play off the bat of Jake Cronenworth to close out the shutout victory. It's an encouraging bounce-back effort from Diaz, who'd allowed five runs (four earned) in his previous three appearances (2.1 innings) while taking a pair of losses and a blown save. The 27-year-old right-hander still sports a subpar 6.62 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP and 18:14 K:BB across 17.2 innings while going eight for 10 in save opportunities this season.       Alexis Díaz pitched a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a 2-0 win over the Padres on Tuesday.

      Advice: Díaz walked one and struck out one and then induced a game-ending double play. The save was his eighth of the season in what has been a tough year for Diaz. The 27-year-old has a 6.62 ERA and has blown two saves. The good news is that he’s not allowing lots of hard contact, but the bad news is that his command has wavered, leading to an increased walk rate and a huge reduction in his swinging strike rate.       Blanco (suspension) will be added to Houston's active roster to start Sunday at Oakland, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

    • Espada: Ronel Blanco likely back Sunday vs. A’s
      Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters Ronel Blanco will likely start on Sunday against the Athletics.

      Advice: Blanco is currently serving an automatic 10-game suspension for violating the league’s illegal foreign substance rules, but he’s in line for a tasty matchup in his return against the struggling Athletics.       Holmes (1-1) allowed four runs on four hits and two walks while taking a loss against the Mariners on Monday. He blew a save chance and recorded only two outs.

      Advice: Holmes entered Monday with zero earned runs allowed through 20 innings this season. Seattle chipped away at him with singles and walks to plate four runs and take the lead in the ninth inning. Holmes' ERA jumped to 1.74 as he was handed his first loss of the year.       Clay Holmes blew his second save of the season against the Mariners on Monday.



      Advice: Holmes hadn’t allowed an earned run all season. He entered with a 4-1 lead against the Mariners. After a Josh Rojas ground to begin the ninth inning, the floodgates opened. Julio Rodriguez hit an infield single. Cal Raleigh walked. Luke Raley hit an infield single and Gleyber Torres threw the ball into the Yankees dugout to make it 4-2. Mitch Haniger singled to center to make it 4-3. Dylan Moore walked. Dominic Canzone hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game and Ty France singled on a ground ball to give the Mariners the lead. In all, Holmes allowed four earned runs and only recorded two outs without allowing any hard contact. His ERA is up to 1.74 on the season.

    • Craig Kimbrel back in closer’s role for Orioles
      Orioles manager Brandon Hyde mostly confirmed Monday that Craig Kimbrel is again Baltimore’s closer.

      Advice: It’s no surprise after Kimbrel picked up a clean save Sunday, but confirmation is always nice. MASN’s Steve Melewski quoted Hyde as saying: “Well yeah, I think so. Probably.       Diaz (1-3) took the loss in 10 innings Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing an unearned run on one hit and a walk over an inning of work. He also struck out a batter.

      Advice: Diaz struck out Jason Heyward in the ninth to send the game into an extra frame. He was an out away from getting through the 10th, but Shohei Ohtani laced a base hit to right that scored Heyward to end the game. Diaz has now given up five total runs on four hits over his last 2.1 innings, which has also come with two losses and a blown save. He's given up nine runs in 4.2 innings in May. Despite the struggles, manager David Bell has not made any public comments about a possible closer change, suggesting Diaz's job is save for now.       Advice: It appears Kimbrel has found his groove again, and he was rewarded with a save opportunity while posting his fourth consecutive appearance without allowing a hit or a walk.
